Where did you order the oysters from?

Just bought then from the supermarket, they were supposedly Normandy Oysters from Omaha Beach (the D Day beach) and checking Normandy Oysters are out of season. So no idea what type of oyster they were.
But tasty.

I’ve never had an oyster before

Off to Normandy for 3 weeks on Friday, I’m looking forward to the seafood!

You’ll only try one.

That’s why I was thinking of ordering some. Get it over with. If I hate them never need to consider it again

Was there last week - near Houlgate. No oysters were had, but had some fantastic moules a la creme on the quayside in Honfleur and we bbq’d some lobster from the Houlgate fish market. I wish I was still there - three weeks sounds like a dream.

Now moules. That’s a different game entirely. Especially on the harbour side at Honfleur.

And the sea salt butter ;)
Oh and the cheeses.

A nice oyster is lovely, but an acquired taste. They must smell of the sea, any other smell avoid.

Ah lobster..prison food ;)
Agree with @Alan_tbt moule on the quayside is amazing.
Flunch (big french food chain) are doing all you can eat mussels in four flavours https://blog.flunch.fr/actus/moules-frites-flunch.html? they are dutch mussels tho.

I picked up an Opinal no8 in Ypres a couple of weeks ago. The shop near the Menen gate had a number of differently handled options. The nicest was a two tone handle.

We’re staying with family in Granville, definitely going to the fish markets and BBQ all the things.
And moule frites on the quayside with a large glass of wine sounds perfect right now.The colourful opinels are the trekking series.

The rules of the thread are clear, shows pics or a link.

That’s great - thanks! (I edited out the bit about the Opinels from my post because I am stupid and there is an ISP safety filter that had flagged and blocked knife sites)
Have a great trip!

Mmmm.... cheese toastie

In that case wait until around christmas. This is the best time for oysters. Something to do with colder water so the oysters aren't trying to reproduce so taste nice.
I would try france as the oysters are cheaper and better quality. As the people know what they are eating.

On the subject of mussels and the beach if you're near the Atlantic coast (or anywhere with lots of pines), take a bin bag with you to the beach and collect a load of pine needles before you head home then try an eclade:
IME hammering 3 nails in a triangle configuration is much easier to start the layout than trying to balance the first central mussels together.
-
• #4773
IYE as in you've actually done that ^ ?
-
• #4774
Yeah. Quite a lot.
It's a cool thing to do at a BBQ while you wait for the bbq charcoal to get ready. Lots of effort for something that goes up super fast and looks a lot more impressive than in the video.
If you want to go pro, you can actually stack them on top of each other to make a pyramid. But personally I don't like that as you end up with uncooked ones in the center of the pyramid.
Always remember to have the opening end pointing down, otherwise it fills with Ash.

Is it is easy to buy non pre cooked mussles? Not tried in london beyond the vacuum packed ones?
Am now the proud owner of my own oyster knife. I feel I reached the pinnacle of adulthood.
Already used on 2kg of oysters, so been used more times than most of the oysters knifes in 78% of islington homes.
EDIT: https://www.amazon.fr/COUTEAU-DU-CHEF-404710-Inoxydable/dp/B072X27893 is the same knife and mine was a €1 from a supermarket.
