Also, you knife nuts should move to Scandinavia, even here in Oslo you'll see people carrying huge sami knives in case a fish needs to be gutted, reindeer skinned or a tree chopped down.

I used to carry one of those ti-lite knives mentioned a while back. The huge ones that are meant to open automatically by pulling out of your pocket. I moved to Germany where such dumb things are illegal (for the best I think).
Having gone a few years without a knife in-pocket, I started missing it. This arrived today:
It is a Mercator k55k. One of those classic designs that has been around forever. It is destined to cut up plenty of apples. I am pretty stoked, but wish it had a pocket clip. I may try and add a diy one with the clip salvaged from my ti-lite.BTW if you want to LOL at 'merica check out the video of these dudes http://www.coldsteel.com/Product/TI-LITE.20_SERIES/TI-LITE_SERIES.aspx The gun on hip is funny, but the fruit cutting scenes are the best. Especially the proud faced holding up of the mangled grape. You LOL I weep for the future.

Posted this a while back, excellent knife.
You still live in Germany? Dunno about the law there but that's way illegal in the UK, the blade is too long and it locks. -

carbon steel knife
from a market in berlin; there's a guy who imports them from vietnam -
• #363
I used to see these being made in the Philippines out of old leaf springs. The handles were a little more sophisticated though!
-
• #364
Yeah he sells them with "proper" wooden handles as well -
I didn't care, as i grab knifes sort-of "from above", like this -
http://cmsimg.freep.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=C4&Date=20140403&Category=FEATURES02&ArtNo=304030025&Ref=V5&MaxW=300&Border=0&A-cut-above-How-choose-use-care-workhorse-knives-make-kitchen-prep-safer-easier
..and the ones with a handle are twice the price (I paid just littler over a tenner for mine). -

Maybach-Ufer, Kreuzberg, the "turkish market".
Tuesday and friday! If you enter from the east it's right of the road, third booth or so on the left side, vis-vis the organic produce.

"Turkish market"!!!! there's a severe lack of Middle eastern foods to buy up here in MV, sounds like I will have to make sure my next trip to Berlin is on a Tuesday or Friday.
-

It's not really a lot food from Turkey, but turkish merchants selling the stuff
(there are quite a lot of turkish supermarkets here though, selling turkish brands,
and quite a few things the local chains don't have / turkish specialities). -
• #370
Tina I see tons of veg there, but is there really organic stuff?
-
• #371
Only at the one little booth vis-a-vis the knife guy. This is from the area around Berlin / Brandenburg.
As far as I know all the rest is "regular" - often cheap, sometimes good, sometimes real shitty. -
• #372
Ah, I see. Thanks.
FWIW I have seen the knifes at Maur Park on sundays as well. Not all of the time though.
-
• #373
You mean the "tourist" market in Mauerpark?
; ]
-
• #374
Hah, have you been to the turkish market before? They have a similar clientele. We have both been to both, for example.

Excellent customer service and dispatch time.
