What kind of knives? Someone might take them on as a project to regrind etc.; otherwise your local tip will probably take them in the metal recycling.
-
• #2005
Especially if you say you found them by a bin and thought it was sensible to get them off the street.

Is it porn if they are used?
-
• #2008
It is if they are under a hedge in a plastic bag.

Ah hedge porn, the internet is killing hedge porn.

Would fit in better if there was a fknpna thread. Couldn't find my nice woodworking knife so sharpened up an old rusty mora I found in a box. Probably cost £2 or so. Worked really well!

Update: I went for a symmetrical grind, and my colleague convinced me to try and get a hamon. Wrapped the blade in stainless wire, then 3 layers of refractory cement and ash in increasing concentration. Heated to cherry red with a propane torch (although I was outside, so it was hard to judge) then quenched in peanut oil. A bit of the cement flaked off during the heating, so we'll see how that affects the hamon, but a quick file test shows it has hardened well. It'll go in the oven tonight and tomorrow for 3x 1hr at 180C for tempering, then comes the big reveal!

Not ‘porn’ per se, but a nice little nr. 7 that I added a countersunk hole to and knotted a reflective lanyard on. Gave the edge a once over and it is proper sharp now. A gift to a lovely lady who’ll be working and living on a campsite for the next couple of months. I say gift but she’ll have to fork over some coins because of superstition...

Are you going to etch it at all?
What steel are you using? -
• #2015
I did give it an etch with lemon juice, and it brought out some subtle colour difference, but now having sanded and polished it again, the etch has almost completely disappeared. I might give it another go with the lemon juice later, but worried about staining the handle now.
The steel is: https://www.schmiedeglut.de/carbonstahl-kohlenstoffstahl-cederstahl_1
Just what my colleague had lying around, and didn't want anything too fancy seeing as it was harden with a torch and I am very inexperienced.Used some wood from an old shoulder plane for the handle, not sure exactly what it is but obviously something pretty hard and durable! Messed up the pins a bit (again) so they're not perfectly flush and there's a bit of glue visible, but overall super happy with how it's turned out!

Good job, really nice shape

That is really nice.

Thanks! As always, learned a lot, and the next one will be better I'm sure!
This steel oxidises really easily, so it's definitely going to take on some patina super quickly. Hopefully I can keep it well enough that it doesn't just completely go to shit.

Knife knoob/lurker here in need of some opinions/reccomendations
Looking for a UK legal carry knife for a mate for his Bday, nothing fancy but was hoping to get the handle engraved so I suppose that has to be metal.
Have been looking at some SpyderCo ones but none of the metal handle ones seem to have a clip which would be a nice feature to have, any thoughts? Looking to spend like £30 -

I found it hard to get a metal handle knive for this. I think your best bet is the “British army” type knife. There are various types, with or without the spike.
However, I got the SpyderCo edc knife and had the blade engraved as a pressie for a mate.

Anything with a blade more than 7.62cm (3") or that locks the blade, however long, is not UK legal so a lot of the SpyderCo knives are out and they're a bit pricey. You might have more luck with a "boring old" Swiss Army Knife. They can be personalised and you or your mate can buy a belt pouch for it. Everyone loves a SAK.
Have a gander at this

Yeah done a bit of research on the legality of things, there seems to be a few that meet the legal requirements on heinnie haynes, but the lack of a clip isn't ideal.
Thanks for the suggestion, but not really after a swiss/multi tool type thing as he has a decent leatherman, wanted something that looked nice as much as its functional :)@stevep your suggestion of engraving the blade might be my best bet actually, I had assumed it was a bit of a no no but opens up my options! Thanks.

Get the Heinnine Hayes CRKT Liong Mah then. Very good knife for that price. I do like mine.

How did you/your friend find the quality of the spyderco
-
• #2025
Do like the look of that but no space to engrave the blade :(
Where do you dispose of abused (used by da stoopid) knives?
