Hoping to draw on the collective knowledge here,
can anyone recommend a decent-ish santoku for up to £60?
cheers -

I received one of those for Christmas and have been very pleased with it. Holds an edge very well.

@TW looks good, thanks!

I love mine, totally solid knife.
A bit on the heavier side, so this looks like a great Japanese alternative from a couple of pages ago: -

Lost my Opinel. What's a solid, legal length, folding knife for a decent £? Something suited for camping/general usage.

A bigger opinel than the last one?

Was looking at a Boker

I've got the 240mm gyuto, which it appears they sold out of - was £70. It's excellent, really nicely balanced and scary sharp. One thing though is that they don't come with a warranty if you're worried about that sort of thing, but I spoke to James at knivesforchefs and he said they've had no issues with them.

The Sportmesser is a thing of great beauty, I want one, or one of their other proper old school penknives, beautifully made, but if you lose it you'll be gutted! (pun alert)
That is what's so good about an opinel. Nice enough, cuts things, and if it disappears just get another! -

I have a small Benchmade for everyday jobs and camping. It's not legal due to the lock(and you can flick it open), but then neither is an opinel. Feels nice to use and holds an edge well enough for my needs.
This model but must have been a different grade as it was like £35 instead of £90. Mine is also hhspink which makes it look less mall ninja...

Need a little help I.D.ing something...
Was clearing out some old stuff at my mums and found this old knife that I'd completely forgotten about.
The handle is either bone or ivory and there is writing on the blade from an alphabet I don't recognise. It looks a bit like Ethiopian but could be anything.
There's also a silver inlay down the spine that has lots of random markings that resemble Cuneiform but aren't arranged in any way, just decorative pattern.

Whatever it is it's a really nice shape.

That does look like a pivoting knife. The long tang probably was a guthook once, hunting knife perhaps. Like this one:

Is there a functional knife thread?
Just got this. It's pretty good. Won't be buying spyderco again.

Funny guy. Byrd is spyderco's 'affordable' brand; preempting knockoffs from third parties. Each model has a very similar spyderco equivalent.
A third of the price with near the same quality and design.

Anyone want to buy my little paring knife? Got it at Tsubaya in Tokyo when I was over in January but I never use it. Can't abide a beautiful tool that's not getting used.
It's this one. I'd take £70, which is a bit less than what it cost me, and you'll save £1000 on an airfare too.

Tentative dibs.
For a friend.
Yeah, I know.

I love that...
No, I was thinking that hipster restaurants may care more about their knives and would like them locally sharpened by hand, by a fixed wheel riding, be-mohawked, stay at home dad, artisanal bad ass.
