Thanks, I found this little axe in the woods after a New Age Traveller eviction nearly thirty years ago. It was in dreadful condition held together with nails and it's taken until now to fix it.

My friend Will makes knives. If you can cope with Michel Riux Jr, you might like this little film of Will in action.

Wellingtonia Avenue, Finchampstead? Which tree was it up?

It was my birthday last week and I got a voucher for a knife sharpening course at the Japanese knife centre.
I am excite.
Has anyone here been on it?

• #1507
Yes. One of their short 20 minute sessions. Was good- let me iron out a couple of bad habits.

Clear trick Q there- there are no trees in Finchampstead, a rare hangover from the reign of Charles II.

I work in operations and a lot of the time a stock room, I'm opening and braking down boxes daily as well as cutting crate strapping etc. I have to use a shitty box cutter and so I'd like to get myself a decent knife to use for work. I was thinking about the Gerber one that uses Stanley blades but is there anything else to consider?
Folding, small, legal carry although mostly it will live at the office. -

I just got my dad one of these as a stocking filler

Will Ferraby! How do you know him? We did some filming with him recently (not the above but part of a project happening at the same time that was shot). I really like his work - have come very close to ordering on one of his Friday sales - the way he layers materials to form his handles is beautiful:
etc

On another note - apart from ordering a well made knife - sharpening... Anywhere to get tips from? I've got various wet stones I use to sharpen blades for planes (woodworking etc) but it's such a faff and I don't fancy doing it on a kitchen knife.
I've never honed (I know I know) - will it makes a noticeable difference in day to day terms? Or having left it so long should I suck it up, sharpen and then hone on the reg?

Ha! My wife bought me one of these for Christmas. It's stunning. Really never had a knife experience like it - feels amazing in the hand, cuts through anything like butter (i was making slices of pancetta so thin today you could see through it) and looks beautiful.

I've had nice knives before but nothing quite like this. I've used some very nice Japanese ones my dad owns but even they're different and more rigid to this. It just feels so natural to cut with it. So accurate. Can't get over it. Definitely buying some more to match it in due course.

Honestly she did very well. It even glides through swedes without any effort at all which is frankly a miracle. Previously when cooking swedes I had to use a hatchet*.
(1. Vegetables rather than Scandinavians. 2. Not even exaggerating).

Aces! I'll point Will towards this! Merry Christmas!
