Free bullhorns handlebars if anyone wants them:
25.4mm 42cm c-c bull horns, silver, 17mm internal diameter
Brand new, bought them without asking what internal diameter was and tt brakes don't fit, d'oh.
Free if anyone wants them.

Just trying to resurrect this thread. Is there anyone on here still about? I keep seeing a guy on a cannondale track riding up the high st, and a couple (I assume) on a Fuji and Genesis around the Cowley rd. Anyway if you’re Oxford based and up for rides/beers/shit talking make yourself known!

Does anyone have an old single hole mounted rear caliper brake for a BMX kicking around? The sort of thing that came on old BMXs, cheap MTBs etc. It's for a beater that we found dumped at work so rusty/cheap/free would be ideal.
I'm also after an old pair of grips, again condition isn't important. Cheers.

I’m heading to Oxford today touring. Anyone around that fancy’s a bit of a ride? Show me the place, have a beer?

Lovely day for it! If I wasn’t chained to a desk I’d have bitten your hand off for a sunny ride. I can offer some of my favourite places though for refreshments:
Coffee - Missing Bean on Turl street, just behind the covered market.
Waffles cream/waffles - G&Ds on St Aldates, next to St Aldates church
Covered market is nice for independant cafes, but hit and miss on what’s open at times but can usually find something interesting.
Bike shops & Cafe @ The Handlebar on St Michael’s street
Also on St Michael’s street, three goats head pub for proper English pub that’s not usually too busy with tourists.
If you want something different then Tap Social in botley (west oxford) is a good tap room, sometimes have a pop up in the covered market too and have recently opened a pub on Abingdon road (south oxford) called The White House but haven’t been so can’t vouch for it.
Lamb and Flag on St Giles also reasonable, and nearby eagle and child (temp closed?) are both said to have been frequent haunts of Tolkien and CS Lewis -

Ah man, would similarly have jumped on this if you said Friday - my quick pub recommendations:
- the perch in binsey - proper country pub within 5 mins ride of oxford town centre, bit swanky now re food but best beer garden in the county
- the isis in Iffley - lovely independent pub also by the river
- swim in the river near Wolvercote then pint at the Trout (setting for la belle sauvage, Phillip Pullman's book) with the peacocks
- the victoria arms in Marston, also on the river, lovely location and you can swim at the end of the pub garden
I can supply many other wild swimming options in the vicinity if that's of interest!

You have to go for a swim at port meadow, and have ice cream at G&Ds.
The rest- up to you- but go to Exeter college, into the fellows garden and take in the best view of Oxford- with an iced coffee from the missing bean.(These views are biased)
I also hear good things about the Punter- the veggie pub in Osney.

This takes me back. You could test your knees up Shotover Hill, across the gravé up the top then descend into Wheatley for a pint in The Sun/chat with Gaz from Supergrass if you time it right

Thanks for all of your suggestions guys!
I managed to get ice cream, visited Fellows garden, port meadow and had cheese and wine in university park.
I swam at Abingdon before getting to Oxford.
That was a fun days cycling and sightseeing. If you’re interested you can follow my instagram

Nice Oxford tour! Would have thrown some suggestions into the mix, but only just saw your post. Hope you enjoyed?

No worries, I had a great time!
I’m now down in Cornwall. Right now it’s pissing down 🤷♂️ -

Love riding around Oxford, have family in Marston and a bike in their garage.
Few new places on this that I'll add to the 'to visit' place when I'm next up.
Plus one on the swim from University Parks to the Victoria arms being lovely, but you have to avoid the punts.

Saw your near Eden Project. There is a good pizza place just down the road called Salty Bay Pizza. It's in an industrial estate, but very nice.
-
• #493
Thanks but I’ve gone past there now. I’m continuing south, might go to the Lost gardens of Heligan today but it’s pissing down. Should have saved Eden project for today 🤷♂️
Not sure where I’m going next, I’m a bit worried that if I get to Lands End I’ll want to cycle to John o Groats. -

The canal towpath is now resurfaced as far north as the A44 and (after connecting to the Thames path at Osney) goes south to the new(ish) bakery Proof in Kennington which is an excellent coffee and pastry stop. Well recommended if you like traffic free pootling!
-
• #495
Hey, where would I pick up the start by bike?
-
• #496
Hey! The canal only goes as far south as the back of the railway station, where it connects to the Thames path.
But since the canal and river broadly run north/ south in Oxford then you can pick it up wherever suits! I live in East Oxford so I generally join at Iffley Lock which is beautiful.
So it depends where you’re going from and to! 😆

In Oxford next weekend and got a free day sat, can anyone recommend a nice pleasant 50/60 mile route? On the cruiser so can be light off-road sections. Nice cafe for lunch appreciated.
Ideally starting around the Marston area as thats where I'll be.

Where did you ride to, did you find a nice cafe? I tend not to venture out that far as I live to ride around the city/ river/ towpath, more like 30k rides for me.
Proof bakery (between Kennington and Sandford on Thames) is always a good stop off for coffee and pastry! I rode down there for a milk-bar in the sun on Saturday
Tried all these and a few others, all good but found Raoul's a bit pretentious. Realised I'd been to the turf tavern before once I went into the little alley leading to it and saw the Bill Clinton story on the wall. Really enjoyed my short stay in Oxford, going home tomorrow. Hopefully able to return at some point but the political stuff happening this week makes it look unlikely for at least a year... Thanks for the tips @C4r1s @JoePablo
