I will have pretty much this for sale after I get round to taking some photos this weekend.

The stiffer the rim the lower the tension drop. So it not about the rim material but the rims radial stiffness.

yep. I have a set of 340's 18F/24R I have not used them yet (too many wheels) but I would ride them I am a fair bit heavier than you.

Amey why not the Kinlin XR22T rim as plan B. A bit than the R460 less weight (slightly) and off set drilling. Hands down a better rim.
Also DT Swiss have the RR411 out which is fairly light but alot siffer than the 340.

Happy with these wheels.
Have realised I have distinct preference for TPI of 230 minimum ....

Just get some Superstar Pave 28s next time they have a 10%/20%/30% offer. They're light enough, they work perfectly happily with tubeless tyres (even though they not officially tubeless compatible) and if the difference between them and some lighter wheels will make a real difference how fast you get up an Alp then you need to be calling Dave Brailsford so you can get him in touch with your agent to talk numbers...

after much procrastination, i am gonna get some new wheels built for my commuter bike.
Rims:
Hed Belgium - can't seem to find any
Pacenti SL23 - overkill for all seasons commuting?
H + Sons Archetype - will look funny with 35c tyre?
H + Sons tb14 - could be good? £48 from wiggle:http://www.wiggle.co.uk/h-plus-son-tb14-road-rim/
Hubs:
Charge Plug has 135mm OLD so not a lot of choice for flip flop hubs in this dimension..
So Surly New Ultra hubs, 32h back, 28 front.
Good to go with this combo?

You are probably right. If its OTP is there anything better/wider than DT Swiss R 24 SPLINE?
-
• #7338
seems experience with Surly hubs is a bit hit and miss... anyone using them?
or anything else I could use? Just convert a 120mm hub, maybe?
-
• #7339
Justridingalong sell hed rims.
-
• #7340
ah yes - thanks.
although £150. Each.

maybe not, then...

Kinlin from @cycleclinic is your answer
-
• #7342
Yes, they look fine.
Just need suitable hub option.

Seem fine to me. They were redesigned recently IIRC.
-
• #7344
If shop builds wheels with them then they sell the rims.
the are two UK builders on the first page building with these rims
However they are not commuting rims everytime you brake it will cost you. Kinlin are a better bet or the archetype.HED's are not £150 each either. The last i checked they are £130 each splitting hairs though.

• #7345
Ok, loads of places with HED Belgium - whatever; they are too expensive.
Kinlin / Borg 22 look fine.
I need a 135mm rear hub that's fixed / free. Is this something you could source and build me a pair of wheels?
-
• #7346
Yes you can use a normal fixed free hub. A longer axle can be fitted. What is your dropout width so i can work out if a new axle is needed or not.
-
• #7347
I take it you have a rim brake bike.
-
• #7348
Yes, rim brake. It's a stock 2016 charge plug 0. I measure 150mm distance between outside of drop outs. These bikes have 135mm OLD, I guess so they can sell gears bikes on the same frame.

35c tyre ?
Get the hydra
I noticed a big change in tension with my recently built Stans Crest Mk3 mountainbike rims when the tyres cracked on. Its a fairly light weight and only 15.8mm deep, so quite a shallow rim and the driveside spoke tension dropped from 95kg to around 60kg.
DT R511 which is 32mm deep hardly changed
