I wouldn't say my hope is high pitched. More annoying pitched.
Must be CK.

• #3653
Yeah hope are stupidly loud. Ck are a bit more refined, still a bit weird though.
-
• #3654
It's just fucking annoying. Not hipster enough for it to be cool.
Useful when coming up behind a horse and rider. But that's all.

Dura Ace vs. RS series wheel weight is virtually all down to the use of a titanium freehub body. You could probably whack a DA series freehub body on an RS wheel and get the weight near identical for 2/3 the price of DA.

Useful for commuting too. Better than a bell.

Since I have 3x bikes and only one pair of wheels between them I need another pair so going for weightweenie budget option of Kinlin XR200 (28h rear 24h front) laced onto Novatec F482SB-11 and A291SB (ceramic upgrade) with Sapim CX Ray black spokes just under £350 including build isnt too bad for a 1300g +/- wheelset. They will have Conti GP4000SII 25c tyres with latex tubes.

Why bother with ceramic bearings?
-
• #3661
Who is building them for you?
-
• #3662
I would consider some of the bikehubstore offerings if you are going weenie.
-
• #3663
I know Amey is aware of BHS's offerings - he had the same problems with their Ultralight rear hub that I did.
-
• #3664
Yep; had a chat with Brandon but decided to steer away this time mainly due to logistics plus I find Novatec really reliable ..
@Mechamorgan so cheap for upgrade (£20) might as well see what the fuss is about ..
@Chadders81 Fitzrovia Bicycles; same as the last time for my current wheelset which is Novatec rear (2x) and BHS SL front (radial) on Kinlin XR200 rims; 3.2k+ miles and counting; no issues whatsoever.

What problem did you have with the ultralight rear? Am curious as I have been considering a weenie build too.
-
• #3666
Haven't you built and sold a tonne of wheels this year?
Also £350 budget wheels? BUYRRRRRRRRRR
-
• #3667
The spoke holes on the DS and NDS were opposite each other, rather than being offset. It was a one-off manufacturing error, and to be fair Brandon did sort it out, albeit rather slowly.

any recommendations on road disc wheels? Considering getting something built onto Archetypes, but there are relatively few hubs out there. Considered Kinesis crosslight, but wondered what i could get that might be wider or lighter
-
• #3669
130mm or 135mm rear spacing? For the latter, any of the dazzlingly wide range of MTB XC hubs should do nicely.

Not really; just bought and sold HEDs rather quickly realising that I need to work on my position to get aero before dropping money on aero wheels .. opposite of buyer ;)
And as @danstuff said. It was resolved. I was stung by £20 duty and £12 handling charges last time I ordered from BHS but then I had no choice as no one was selling Kinlin XR200 on this side of the pond. This time I got them for £33 a pop from this place: http://spokesmanwheels.co.uk/

Meh, for £20 enjoy your ~.5 watts
-
• #3673
This, they're also pretty light without the need for braking surface.

Buying (and selling) all the things in order to realise what you need. It must cost a fortune, yet your back at the start with a bike you could have (and should have?) walked out of Evans with.
Not meant as a dig. Just kinda amazing. I thought 'scoble was bad (although I think he just buys camping kit now).
Hope and CK.
