All your money is going on the hubs. Not a bad thing but if stiffness is what your after (over your 501s) I'm not sure they'll be a lot better. My 32h open pro wheels ride nicely and are strong but they're not very stiff, I think some heavier or v shaped rims would do it. I've always found (Askiums, Krysium etc) really stiff but obviously they're a factory wheel.

^ 100kg+? strada will build you a set of A23s with novatec hubs for just shy of 300 http://www.stradawheels.co.uk/

A23 are far from stiff

Have a search for the hope mono rs to stans alpha 400 wheelset, it's an otp that can be had for just over £300, the rs are future proof for 11 speed, and the 400's in 32h will be nice and stiff

The DA Freehub version is presumably the deep spline like FH-7800 for 10-speed CS-7800 cassettes only.

Need a replacement rear wheel quickly.
Will a Shimano WH-R501 do me for commuting and the odd turbo session or is it worth splashing out on a 105 hub on Open Pro?
I weigh between 85kg and 90kg depending on how fat and lazy I've been.
-
• #3342
We sell a lots of R501 to fat and lazy cunts, so you'll be fine.
-
• #3343
Perfect because I forgot to mention I'm a bit of a cunt also. Who is 'we'? Do you work in a bike shop? What have you got them priced at?
-
• #3344
Bike shop and normal RRP.
If you want an improvement, a wheels with wider rims paired with 25/28 is usually the best step forward.
-
• #3345
I know but my good bike won't take a 25 and if I want to use it in winter with shitty wheels, I'm snookered.

• #3346
you're such a charmer Ed

Are they Zondas? The rear lacing looks subtly different.
Zondas are very good wheels and quite 'fast' according to tour's data (and many happy customers). They're often for sale ~ £250 which makes them good value. The rims are regular rather than wider.

Cheers, looking around to upgrade my elite s, so thinking looking at something that goes well with the bike, (mainly looking for black aluminium rims)
Tempted to go with the r-sys or similar, but then found the falcon to be eye catching, I might need to look at them at closer inspection though as I'm not too concern about the width of the rim but more the braking surface and whether they're are similar to the current r-sys smooth-ish braking surface or their 125 years anniversary wheelset, which are a lot deeper with the grooves.

any anodised black braking surface wont last long anyways....
even the fancy Mavic r-sys brake surface will wear through after a few rides in the wet.
So, have trawled through this I wanted to run something by you. I.m 192cm and weight 100kg. Yes, hills are an issue before you ask! I have some shimano R501's on my road bike which came as stock and after tightening the spokes up they have been great apart from a little wobbling on the front occasionally. I am thinking of a cheap upgrade and so thought some Hope Pro 3 RS mono wheels would be stronger, more responsive and I have found some for £280. Is this a good plan?
