loved the four season.
great tyres.

Not sure what new tyres to go for to be honest. Chris King wheels arrived, so light look lovely and the hub isn't anywhere near as noisy as I thought but that might get noisy once I put them on the bike?
Something durable that sticks well in the wet would be ideal, most folding tyres you seem to get 3000 miles out of before they need replacing. Id be happy with that.

I really like my Michelin Krylion, seem like a good balance of speed grip and puncture protection.
Latex inner tubes are worth it if you don't mind topping up your tyre pressure regularly, you can really feel the difference. -

Take a look at the tyres threads spenceey if you've not done so already.
For the kind of riding you do I'd have thought the Panaracer Pasela would worth considering.

Krylion carbon are good tyres but they've stopped making them although they are probably just rebadged now as more expensive. Might snap up a set from chain reaction whilst they are 25.
Pasela are great my sisters ran them on her road for the last 2 years without punctures. The gumwall sides won't look good on my wheels though. Do they do black?

I don't think so.

Ride them in London for a while, they'll go black.

Bam!
These have appeared ; http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=180791
These have arrived. Not happy about the noise ( I told you so!) so ill be selling them again, James has first refusel but if you'd like to get your hands on a steal of a wheelset for the price pm me.
I'll be selling them for exactly what I paid 320 posted.

I thought James' wheels are falling apart or something the first time I heard it.
If you want quiet get Fulcrum or Shimano. -

I have Fulcrum 7's at the moment for winter and it's by far the loudest free-hub I have ever heard!
I just thought this was normal - are they better now? (Mine are about five years old but have been looked after.)

Spencey, I have a pair of Dura Ace 7800 hubs on Open Pro CD's.
Yes, it's that wheelset- totally new bar the hub shells and axles, never been used outside- only on the turbo, which they are a little overspecified for to be honest.
Almost totally silent, and the titanium freehub body is brand new.

What's the spoke count on them Dammit?

My boss got some fulcrum 5's for cheap and I was shocked at how utterly silent they are.

How much would something like that cost little old me?
-
• #293
I'd have to think, where are you? First things first- see if the noise (or lack thereof) works for you.
Just so you can point and laugh at me, spent £130 on (essentially) the hub shells and axles, then £90 on rims, £130 on the new freehub, then build and spokes.

• #294
i've done nearly the same thing with my Mavic SL's
-
• #295
I'd imagine any noise less than the CK will work for me!
-
• #296
Also why point and laugh?
-

Ok, well- they are pretty damn silent, there is a slight ticking as they freewheel, but I doubt you'd hear that if you were not holding the bike with one hand and spinning the wheel with the other.
Now we need to work out a fair price.
As I said, the freehub, bearings, spokes, nipples, rims and skewers (Ultegra skewers) are brand spanking, the axles and hub shells are used.
They were built by Charco, and serviced by Brixton (spokes given a quick tighten up) last week when I took the bike in to have the steerer cut down.

Sounds good to me. I'd need them posted thats all.
