there are a few threads on this i think, but this actually happened to me today and the cop asked me if i wanted him to "scrape my remains off the road with a fork and mail them to my parents." i managed not to talk back.. but what a weirdo. a fork?

and he just pulled up next to me in a cop car on essex road, road traffic was clear in front and no quick turn off so i was basically cornered.

Happened to me, even in Birmingham.

you can be arrested for failing to stop on a pedal cycle. Just a word of warning.

Happens all the time. Two of my colleagues have been caught after trying to run in the last two months; the police are especially tenacious in the City. It's now an arrestable offence with a large fine. And, if like one of my colleagues, you happen to be carrying a fruit knife you'll get charged for that too and end up in front of the magistrate.
Better to stop, be polite and hope they will let you off with a lecture (which nowadays always seems to come with the ghoulish scraping-off-the-road-crying-family bit). If they don't then accept that getting fined from time to time is going to happen.
If you can't pay the fine, don't ride the fixie. -

They now have Death Star tractor beams on all City police vehicles. You will be caught and they are then allowed to take 3 of your internal organs - their call which three so you'd better be nice to them.

I run about 4 lights a day, occasionally right in from of coppers. Generally slow, have a good look about and continue on with a theatrical 'looks safe to me' glance around. Maybe I should be more careful!?

I ran from the cops after running a light in the City, they went apeshit and thought i was a terrorist. Not recommended.

City coppers are fucked in the head due to severe boredom.. mess with those cockbags at your peril.

I got arrested for running 2 red lights on oxford st in the pissing rain years ago by a bunch of fat fucks in a tsg van. They thought I was going to leg it and bundled me onto the floor.
Fortunately back at the nick they put me in a cell with my mobile still with me so I called it into my controller (greyhound) and gave them a hooky name.
They wet themselves laughing about it.
Now I only jump red lights in front of policemen when riding with Harry Major, his pinkness serves as distraction....

i could have got away but i chickened out after a minute of sprinting away and gave myself up. they told me I was under arrest, checked my bag (even checked the battery compartment of my mobile), then after about 1/2 an hour they realised I just ran away cos I didn't wanna get a fine and I wasn't actually a terrorist, they just let me go.

aww if you'd told me you escaped i would have bought you a beer
best thing to do i reckon is get to the west end where you can cut through small streets and leave the coppers at the back of the traffic

Police have radios, though. And guns. And they can communicate faster than I can pedal. Not worth the risk!

true, but if you lose them round a corner or through an alley, then you can lock up the whip and keep a low profile by going into a shop.
im still very tempted to try

i'd rather stop and take the piss out of them for a few mins than try and escape i think. i've been stopped by the pigs for shooting photos so many times now that i've lost every bit of respect i may once have had for them. it would be awesome to ditch them going through an alleyway though :-p

Or perhaps put a newspaper up in front of your face with two eye-holes cut out?
Has anyone out there been stopped by Police for running a red light? How does this actually happen in practice? If you decide not to stop, how can they actually catch you in anything remotely resembling London traffic? Curious because the longer I cycle in London and get to know the sequences the more I seem to blaze through the lights.
