  • I used to have the 661s and swapped to Fox Launches. No flappy straps and don't tend to budge. I got mine when they were on sale, but they're normally quite pricey I think, about £35?

  • Was just about to ask this question, I had some 661 vegi knee pads but they're almost gone. With Tournaments about to commence i'm considering buying a new pair of shinnys. Used to have RaceFace one's when i mountain biked...

any one using them? how do you find them?

  • +1 on the Fox Launches... I love mine, really comfy and super tough...

  • awesome.

  • I have the women's version of those. They're pretty good.

  • I'm thinking of getting a pair of these, http://www.mechanix.com/m-pact-2-glove, Mechanix M-Pact 2 gloves. Anyone used them? Any good?

  • I have a pair of these for sale if anyone wants to try them? £10 almost unused.

I havn't played in these... but...
I hated playing in gloves until very recently... I found that i didn't have the same technical grip as with bare hands... What i realised is that it's the materials thickness in the palms that was effecting the way the mallet felt. Looks like there's a fair bit of padding on those palms... some people might be ok with this... 2p. out.

  • Yeah, I flip between the two - sometimes I play better with gloves, sometimes without, but I'm definitely comfier with them. Depends how you make the grip on your mallet I suppose. I've got luxurious cocktail stick/MTB grip/Sugru combinations on my best mallets.

  • i use inner tube, 1 layer cut in half, i layer normal... applying the same theory as a tennis racket grip, allows full use of the wrist and supports it. (saying this, my next mallet i'm going to use hockey tape to experience the difference...

I got a pair of the Bauer street hockey gloves, although the extra padding on the fingers takes some getting used to the palms are nice and then and it's not hindering my game and i can rest assured my fingers are on if i they take a mallet to them...

  • got an email from chain reaction saying they are having a sale, 661 knee+shin pads for £25, that's good isn't it?

  • Wrist/palm protection... What you using? I clearly need more armour...

I'm falling off a lot now I've gone clipless (stacked it at least four times on Wednesday night), pretty lucky I didn't totally fuck my hand/wrist up...

  • i use one of these;

my wrist wasnt feeling before but now it feels alot better for it. Just the right amount of protection IMO, the plates have a bit of flex and it doesnt effect your play

  • go back to flats old man…

on a serious note you can get these but no idea how they would interfere with playing

  • saying that i did stack a fair few times yesterday and my wrist still hurt, but i think protection level can be a trade off with manoeuvrability

  • the 661s are pretty good, I used them for a while when getting pain in my girly weak wrist. They sorted it out in a few weeks. Only problem is they didn't last too long as the palm plate came out on the 2 I've owned after falling onto them a few times.

  • *not that girls have weak wrists, I have wrists that are both dainty and weak

Play some polo, ya big lummox...

Had some of those knocking around from my skating days but they're way too stiff and bulky for polo IMO...

Cheers for the tips, fellas, I'll look into it...

  • I used one of these back in the day

They hardly impact on wrist movement and did seem to help when I fell on my hands. I think Gabes used to use one too if you want a second opinion.

You know I played monday, tuesday and thursday this week…

Yeah I'd have thought the same from memory but they do stop broken wrists so even if you were to use them whilst you get accustomed to clipless it might be better than breaking something

  • Drink less?

(the real reason Jo falls off)

  • I'm totally tee-total, Louis... You know that...

  • I've used the 661 pro wrist guard for a couple of months now after falling off and landing pretty hard on it. I didn't stop playing to let it recover I just got the guard, i had it done up tight to start with as a kind of splint then slackened it off as it got better. I still wear it just in case.

I just got some 661 pro knee/shin pads from CRC - only 22 squids in the large size.
