I'm interested in trying to make one of these face cage + road helmet helmets.
Has anyone taken a significant hit to the face with one though? I'd be worried that the bolts/clips would just pull through the polystyrene in the helmet...

the j clip is useful, it prevents the cage moving at all once strapped in.
Looks good Joni.
I'm tempted to try the bern watts mod.

The bolts won't come out with impact. They're in pretty solidly and wouldn't come out with an impact from the front. You'd need to pull pretty hard down or outward to dislodge them. Even then you're probably not going to get hurt from it.

Cheers Snoops. I would have liked the j clips but the visor mount is in the way on this set up.
Do you meant tempted to try my mod? Welcome to any time.
I would have gone with this if it had fit as to my mind it's ideal.Me too, comfy helmet...
The protect is the most comfortable helmet I've ever had, and I use a Whisper for my commute.
Gutted this doesn't fit my pea head. -

...Hearing things like this make me glad I have a facecage.
The sweat is annoying but so what. Better to be sweaty than blind.+1
I love my Mycro helmet, it's saved my eyes a few times now.

Who has one of those £30 hurling helmets? Can someone let Adrienne try one on next time you see her?
If only they made them in actual human sizes.

Erin has a large, Jack has a medium, Nik has one, DT has one, Gabes has one, maybe some others too.
X Small = ?
Small = 50cm (no experience)
Medium = 53cm (actually ~55cm I reckon)
Large = 56cm (actually ~58cm I reckon)
X. Large = 59cm (no experience)US Mycro distributor lists the following (which makes more sense from the ones I've tried):
XS = 48-51cm
S: = 52-53cm
M = 54-56cm
L = 57-59cm
XL = 60-63cm -

The £30 ones are different from the Mycro, no? The Mycro's are 70 euro or something?
-
• #1089
Yeh the 30quid ones are differently sized to mycro..
My mycro was 40£, i'd get one of those if you can.
-
• #1090
Ah, I see, the Mycro ones are ~£35 odd second hand, my bad.

Louis has Medium
Alexis has a Medium (I think)
Snoops had/still has a MediumOf the cheap hurling helmets
I'd say they size bigger, I'm normally a 59cm but the medium was slightly too big for me

Put it in the ebay polo finds thread Bells so other people don't bid on it.
-
• #1095
Yeah, I've got a big head and the medium fits although iirc one of the ads for one of the medium cheap ones said 59cm.
They feel cheap, but I don't expect to be hit in the face that often, so it's more than enough for me.

what exactly happened to Bidou?

He took a mallet to the eye. Think it was Mike (Maverick from San Diego) that hit him as he was bending low.
It hit him hard fracturing the socket and squashing his eye. His iris and pupil got squished pretty bad and he might only ever retain 80% of his vision in that eye.
He also looked hot in a tight skirt and vest and revealed his under garments when he hit the ground... -
