Most overrated - a thread about overrated things

normally im pretty open to whatever, but the beatles is an anomoly. i wouldnt bother arguing with me cuase it aint gonna make no diffrence. either you havnt listened to the music properly or you have no soul. ignore me if you dont agree.

I don't know if I have a soul, but I do know I like music with soul, and there's very little of that in the music of the Beatles.

Though I heard a reggae version of taxman the other day, it was pretty good.

i dont trust people that dont like the beatles, they have some kind of agenda or are completely ignorant.

I realised I didn't like the Beatles when I first heard them on acid when I was about 17. The whole thing just felt contrived and basically just too fucking unlikely. Thats when I stuck on Hendrix and The Doors and never looked back.

What was it Strummer said. Phoney Beatle mania has bitten the dust. The Clash, now they were a band. Back in my day....

I've had this idea about why I don't like the Beatles very much. I think I find them boring because of the incredible impact they've had on modern music. Everyone with a guitar has copied them, in some form or another, and because as they do, they each bring their own little addition to the formula, when I hear the source material without all those little additions, it sounds dull and formulaic.
Not because it is, but because I've heard so many variation on it.

I would say The Clash are over rated. Yeah yeah I know, I know! They are a great rock band. But they peaked after the fact, and have released more shit than great, although I will concede that when they were good they were brilliant. However they're afforded godlike status.

I have no interest in the Sex Pistols either, but PIL are one of my favorite bands, so what would I know?

I know it's a cliche to say this, and I know every new generation says it, but most music nowadays really is crap. There is some good new stuff out there but you really have to search for it. I never understood the whole it's-uncool-to-like-the-music-your-parents-like thing.
