Nice little article, so completely of its time: “the back streets of North London, in unfashionable areas like Dalston, Tottenham and Hackney.”

This has reminded me of this entirely silly tune that I rather like listening to in the gym

Time to hawk another random mix of mine.
Theorie Vs DJ-Ornsman - 1995 Soundclash.
https://hearthis.at/theorie/theorie-vs-dj-ornsman-mix-1995-soundclash/I can’t remember what made me think of it, but I did last night and had a listen.
Recorded in May 2007, me and a friend who used to DJ on the same online station decided to a 1995-only mix. Mad to think the records are more than twice as old now as when the mix was recorded.
Remember recording it while I still lived in Dulwich. Drank a load of Nigerian import Guinness in the process and then went to The Bishop pub afterwards for a nightcap. I’m sure there’s a photo of us there somewhere.
Anyway, lots of evolution from the 1994 styles here, with plenty of Hip Hop and R&B coming in (E.g. Mad Phunk) and a few unusual drum patterns and edits (E.g. Water Margin). I especially love the intro track on this.

@J0nathan I really enjoyed your soundclash mix.
I spotted this on the website, a good read and the album is nice as well:

Glad you liked it!
That’s interesting. Don’t think I’ve ever heard of Sugar Minott before. You’re right - the tunes are pretty nice. You should check out my ragga jungle mix 😁

Managed to bag the Tom & Jerry this evening (but not the other one). Seems as though this is the Straight to a Soundbwoy tune. Previously only on a CD compilation. Loving it.

Wow. That is a serious collection! Just yesterday I stumbled on this group all about rave flyers on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/groups/602823530233440/?ref=share
Speaking of raves, I found this wicked video of a rave at Wembley Arena on NYE 94/95. You can skip through the different tracks and interviews.

Needed to see if the tape player in the house still works. Needed a tape.
Bought this in a record shop which was at the back of a clothes shop on the Kings Road. I think it was the same shop that sold all the NASA bomber jackets.

I would love to hear what’s on that! Any DJ/MC info?

Had a little lucky impromptu mix today and pulled this out. Forgot how much the sub bass kicks on the drop. Really short intro as well, so really got to throw it straight in at full volume and then cut it in.

It’s the end of a Swanny set and then Donovan Bad Boy Smith, both really good sets full of epic tunes from back then. Can’t remember the MC names but I recognise their voices - really ‘93 style MC-ing!
I could hear those raves up in the sports centre from my bedroom down in Sydenham but I was a little bit too young to go to raves in 93!
I really need to find a way to convert this to mp3. I’ve also got a stack of Seduction mix tapes up in the loft and some pirate radio recordings from late 94 and on.

Oh man. Vibes and memories.
Have you tried Audacity? That should allow you to hook up a phono-to-line off an amp, or line-to-line off a walkman, into the line-in on a PC sound card and it will just pick up the signal. Hit record and then export to mp3.

+1 for audacity it's so simple just plug and play. I binned loads of tapes I have a shoe box of a few but god knows where it's gone.

There are a few old rave mixes on my mixcloud account that I have converted from cassette. I have some more to upload at some point.

Two tapes I’m gutted I lost were ‘Jungle Dub by Noodles’ mix tapes from Mash on Oxford Street. Both from 1994. Used to go in there on a Saturday on our way to Blackmarket Records to get Standard Deluxe t-shirts and they had a killer sound system in the shop with a DJ in a booth at the back. They used to bang out the tunes REALLY loud in there!

Wow you just gave me some nice memories of going and looking around mash as a school boy. It’s gone now I guess?
Here’s one I actually do have and always wanted to have as a super secret weapon. Never gonna use ‘em. Never gonna use ‘em.
