Cheer for the tips think i'm gonna go for the randonneur's.
@CrazyJames. i only had a quick look when i tried the wheel with the 23's on so i think it should be ok. Think i'm just gonna get 32 front n back, doubt i'm gonna be jumping stair sets n that just the odd bump here n there. The skinny tyres just look odd imo. Cheers for the advice.

Skinny tyres for tricks are shit, only good for normal riding, you want 28 at a minimum, especially if you wanna start doing wallrides and jumping off of stuff.
But really you want 32c+ up back and around 35c+ up front, steer clear of schwalbe marathons as for some reason they are taller than most other tyres (maybe due to the puncture protection later).Porter, with regards to those forks you got, you may need to file down the inside of the fork crown a little, but they clear 32c no problem.
I have a 38C schwalbe marathon plus on my front wheel right now, which means I could clear a 40c normal tyre quite comfortably, after filing them down a little.James, I think you forgot to mention who it was that did the filing!!

went for the randonneur's in the end, 32's. Wish i had got bigger one's, nowhere near as big as i though they'd be. Just need to decide on a decent gearing ratio now before it's ready to roll. Something suitable for both every day riding and the odd trick session, any suggestions?

42/17 is pretty good, or 44/18, thats what i'm running at the moment (although arguably a little spinny for tricks making crank timing that much harder at speed!)

What frame are you running again porter?

A volume cutter V3. I've just finised it today and found a few small problems. The back wheel hits the seat tube with a 23c tyre with i'd say about 3 or 4mm left in the dropouts. So to run a big tyre it's gonna need to be near the end of the dropouts, not a major problem just gonna need another link in the chain to fit my 32c. Also the wheel hits the pedal (when barspinin') at 50/50 with a 700c 32c tyre running the shop 14 forks James reccomended and 170mm cranks. Not sure if other 'trick' frames have clearance at 50/50 crank pos. new to barspinin' again i think i will just get used to throwing the bars at the right time or get some 160mm cranks. I'll get some pics up later might help to explain a bit better.

you've got your chain on upside down.

That's either very observant or very petty of you Hoops!

just letting him know...... i'm sure it's not too good for the chain.
i wouldn't want my chain failing without any brakes.

are the forks from 14 just powdercoated handsome dogs with canti mounts removed?
-
• #68
@ Wallie - i think they were 70 or 75 but they were the lost in stock before they got new more expensive ones in.
@ spaghoops - i have never noticed that! i've probably always run an upside down chain, didn't know you could put a chain on upside down?
-
• #69
you can with a half link.

yes.

you can with a half link.
That is new to me, i'll change it round tonight, cheers.

It does not matter unless you are grinding, in which case the flat side protects the chain more.
-
• #73
i definately won't be grinding, grinding without pegs feels too harsh, and 700c with pegs is not a great look.
-
• #74
I think it does affect the way it runs. Possibly not in a noticable way, but it's worth swapping it round for peace of mind.

does anyone know of a good but cheap fork i could get?
If you wanna maintain your speed etc, then stick with 32c front and back, 32-38C is a noticable increase in rolling resistance, I found 32c front and back pretty tolerable for general riding.
