  • slight thread de-rail but here is a pic of my new geared steed. This is the first bike I'll have had with gears since 2002 - looking forward to some high speed action!

  • Ooh, I like. Though from that angle it looks like the Colnago is tiny!

It is pretty small! 54 c to top on seattube. Hopefully should do me OK @ 5' 9" ish

I'd be gutted if I had to flog the bastard!

  • Should be fine, I have a 54cm racer and I'm about the same height as you. Doesn't feel that small when you're on it but next to my fixie it looks very mini.

    Quaint.

  • Yet another reason why hub gears are superior to derallieurs. You can shift while stationary.

another is that "hub gears" is a damn sight easier to spell.

Serious question, why aren't hub gears more widely used ?

Is it weight ? Lack of gears and/or ratios ?

Heavy (unless made out of real exotica), greater frictional losses, expensive to make.

  • I'll let you into a little secret......i've never loved gears ;)

  • Quaint.

What, no one else refers to them as racers anymore?

  • Only the quaints.

  • BMMF was only attempting to fraternise, Arducius.

  • I'm not quaint. Some of my best friends are though.

  • Aw man, I'm so behind the times, bike terminology-wise!

  • You'll soon get the hang of it, once you've spent more time with your leg slung over the crossbar.

  • What, you guys dont even sit on the saddle nowadays?

  • saddle

    Delightful.
