Ignore them. Fuck all will come of it.

I ignored them for years and years then an enforcement officer turned up at the door, asked me if I had a TV, I told him I didn't, he said ok and left. Never heard from them again. I didn't have a TV at the time.

I'm sure you know this, but it's not just about owning a TV.
Any device that is plugged into the mains and is streaming BBC TV content needs a license. Etc
-
• #631
Oops, that was misleading. That is about using your home licence when away from home.
You just need a licence if you are watching basically any BBC TV content, on any device.

Pretty out of order really.
£13p/m for the limited content they provide and to maintain a public broadcaster.
The whole things a scam.

Akshewerly, etc.., it's having any device that is capable of displaying TV as it is broadcast*, in or out of the home, or any iplayer content**.
If you are using a device at a mates house, it's covered by your own property's TV livence***, unless it's plugged in, in which case your mate's house needs a licence.
I fell down a licensing rabbit hole last night, so I'm now an internetexpert.
TVL do prosecute, but for the most part, rely on admission, or people caving to the endless letter demands. Capita drones get commission for people paying for licenses.
Obvs if you have a TV and need a license, then get one. If you don't need a license, don't talk to them, unless they get a search warrant (which is very rare)
If they get a search warrant, don't obstruct them, as they do prosecute for obstruction, even if you don't need a licence. Or just don't answer your door.
* Which is to say that you start watching it at any point during it's broadcast time - even starting watching catchup 2 minutes before it ends counts as "live"
** Dunno if this covers "pirated" iplayer content.
*** Like this is ever going to be checked. -

What about watching iPlayer content from another country using a VPN? It’s against the iplayer terms of service for which they will block your IP address but will they be waiting to arrest me at the airport next time I fly back in?

I guess it could be the VPN provider that needs the licence.
Either that, or a squad of elite TVL enforcers are on their way to your door right now.

Retrobike.
Why do I keep going on it as if there’s going to be anything worth looking at?
The readers bikes bits and singlespeed thread in particular are chock full of anti-porn and cringe inducing thread titles like “Prefer a fuller figure... Trek Farley 5 content”. Always with that “type of bike content” and it’s never an interesting type of bike either!
When mechanical advice is posted it’s generally woefully incorrect.
Classifieds threads bereft of photos. Just long lists of like, 20+ items that you’d have to read through and then because no one can be bothered to do that there’s just constant bumping of threads. There was one thread I found a while ago that was one post of stuff then honestly like 15 pages or something of “bump”, “up” and “to the top”. There was like max 2 days between bumping posts. Think of the effort!
They also allow openly requesting payment by PayPal gift in classified threads but frown upon calling out over pricing or even anything “off topic” like correcting mis-advertised items.

Other forums in general.
Singletrackworld has this annoying habit of having xxxTrackworld as thread titles, e.g. "Caravantrackworld" for caravan chat, which implies they think the forum is dedicated the singles.
Bikeradar (I used to be prolific in the MBUK days) go to their M&M equiv and it is entirely daily posts of "Its monday, grease your bung holes" "Tuesday is my Boozeday" etc, it is only dreck, no substance.
I rarely venture out of lufgus now, the indoctorination is complete. -

I kinda wondered if it was just that I am so spoiled from using lfgss for so long.
I've dabbled in other forums of course but really just motorcycle stuff - for mechanical advice on whatever bike I had at the time so would not be engaging in any 'social' aspects - and photography - for the classifieds really. You do not want to be engaging with people on photography forums!

Urgh yeah.
They also assign you a tag based (I presume) on how long you've been a member or how many posts you have. I'm an "Old School Hero". Fuck my life.
Lol. If you do it make sure it’s all ok video. That way, if it does to court, you’ve got evidence. Also, if you lose in court, you’ve got a funny video to sell.
Can’t lose.
