Since it's a track/crit bike, oh I don't know, where would one race this on?
-

I mean it was genuinely a question. Very much small fork/stays detailing is the theme.
I'm probably just being narrow-minded because I loathe that colourway.

You asked the question, I answered... I can keep going if you want...

2kg frame weight is a bit of boat anchor

It has been bothering me since I got my Histogram last week.
Do the welds have to be this thick and ugly? Maybe because of the thin tubing? Or just because it would cost extra to grind it clean? Then again, cheaper frames have cleaner welds. -

Is like an mtb weld. Nice n strong.
If you braze / file and fill it takes strength out.
See cannondale.

Thick and ugly baby

Sorry, my welding knowledge equalz zero but why do the welds have to be filled after filing?
And what Cannondale? -
• #3568
Welds can have micro air pockets in them if done a bit quick.
If you file down a weld you expose these pockets, so you then add filler to smooth them over. Some other brands have just gone with filler over the weld as it's faster and cheaper to get the same look, this adds weight though.
Cannondale are well known for smooth finish welds, this takes time and adds cost and if done wrong can weaken a frame at the joint/weld. -

this, back in the day hench weld beads were actually a selling point

Thanks for the explanation but it's still sad that the frame has such ugly welds. Especially with that price tag (which I luckily didn't pay)
Especially when you see other (mostly cheaper) frames with smoother welds. Also with Airplane tubing. -
• #3572
Do U even Nicolai?
-
• #3573
Nothing ugly about those welds!
-
• #3574
Don't mistake a good weld for an ugly one, I you didn't want welds carbon would have been the way to go.

i like my welds to look like fossilised chewing gum. it's where the strongth lies!
