electrical recycling
Where do the smaller things go though. I'm sure most small PCB are actually useless but do medium sized things get repurposed or stripped for useful parts?
Where does this happen?Surely someone on here is working in electronics recycling!

I have a recycling site round the corner where you can take small things, and the recycling centre at Walthamstow will take larger ones. I mean, I have no idea if any of it actually does get recycled, but those are the facilities we have.

Do people stick old external hard drives in the electrical recycling?

Bump - Anyone got a recommendation for someone who would collect a bunch of redundant computer bits in south west London?

All of the Currys stores near me have a free-to-use electronics recycling bin as you walk into the store. I tend to ditch old stuff in those as, unlike the tip, you don't get interrogated as to why you're dropping off 26 micro USB cables.

If I'm going to destroy a bunch of old hard drives. Where's the best place (environmentally speaking) to take the bits?

Also, does anyone know people that can do anything with old music cassette tapes?

There's a scrap man down this way who, of about five years ago, got the setup to extract gold from such nicknaks. I've no idea if this is good in the balance in of living - I'd be awaiting someone better read up on it to comment - but at least your giving it direct to chap who'll profit

Where is down this way? I can't imagine a single bloke extracting the gold bits is the best use of the scrap. I'd hope there's a larger scale electronics recycling mob somewhere near this massive tech industry city...

Kent. It's not my operation and can only think it's the last stage in what to do/ can be done - but yes I'd like to know if the local council (or Currys etc) just sells on in bulk for similar destruction

I expect there's the conundrum of what to do when so much excess builds up
Bump
Where is everyone throwing electronics away?
Still in the bin?
