Couple from Modey Lemon (Pittsburghers, I think).
Early stuff was swampy, gritty RnR:

Later stuff was a little more structured, but lacking the raw awesomeness, IMO

Awesome drummer.

The Black Lips at Mcarren Pool in Williamsburg Brooklyn. No more shows there I'm afraid, But it was amazing having such a great summer venue right in my back yard! It will be missed massively.
saw them at KCSU last year. twas a good gig but they're one of those bands i actually prefer on record. have we had any walkmen on this thread yet?

i think im in love
just watched that red aunts vid and i think i've realised why this thread is so awesome. because it's reminded me why i picked up a guitar in the first place. it's reminding me of the pure joy that years of hard gigging carreerist muso rockist bollocks beat out of me. it's the joy of skronk! it's so entirerely un-self-conscious, willfully scrappy, home made, inclusive and cheerfully for it's own sake. it's been a real breath of fresh air to me.
i don't want to attribute too much to this thread as it's getting embarassing already but it's definitely played a part in getting me excited about hearing and playing new music again. after two years off i started a new band this week. my long term plan with this one, play at a couple of pubs. get in!
speaking of which. if anyone wants to play bass/whatever else in a wonky country folky rock n roll type thing with a very relaxed attitude to comittment please feel free to say hi. i can haz, gtrz, drmz, singz and banjo already.

That's so great Dooks, I'm glad I managed to add a little inspiration. That was sort of the point of this thread in the first place. It has done the same for me, as I too just started putting together a band with a couple other forumengers. Just skronky DIY rock and roll! I can't wait to play out. I miss it terribly, it's been a really long time since I have dug my fingers into playing drums again. I hope I can still do it.
And No, There has been no Walkmen up to this point yet. Living in NYC while these guys were getting it together and gigging in small places was such a pleasure. They are such an amazing live band, Their drummer is incredible! Keep posting Dooks your an asset to the thread.
If you like the walkmen, you might like Johnthan Fire Eater (pre-walkmen). They are made up of the drummer , guitar and keyboards from The Walkmen. Couldn't find a decent video?

Saw them a few years back when they put out their first record. Only really like 'The Rat', but it's one of my favourite songs ever.

sweet. saw them supportin'... no wait, being supported by abe vigoda at barden's recently. i have a mate who's bonkers about them.
in fact said mate is paying some "mathpop" instrumentals with his new band "quadrilles" at the wilmington tonight if anyone's about? they remind me of the truckers of husk or instrumental pinback. shld be fun if you like that sort of thing (i do).
just watch out for that killer drain cover on the way right?
