i run dp18's with a velosolo bolt on sprocket hub. The rim's seem alrite haven't done any big drops on them but i've hit a few curbs and they've held up fine. Only thing i will say, getting bigger tyres on and off (i run 32's) is a nightmare, i'm yet to get a puncture on it but i seriously hope it's not far from home if i do! The velosolo hub is great, can't reccommend it enough, no problems whatsoever.

Just come across these on BLB dunno how old news they are but what do people think, anyone own one? I love the colours!

trick bikes
bmx = bicycle motocross.
motocross = racing
modern trick bmx riding = progression of use of bikes originally used to race round a track.Nuff said.

I think it looks ugly, weak, and the forks would snap after a couple of 3 sets.

Orange looks like a scissor rip to me.

Big time, looks like everyone is getting in on ripping off JOLS straps now too:

i agree on the forks, i like the colours but that's about as fair as i'd go. Dunno what's going on with seat stays? There seems to be a lot of freestyle frames out there now, even freestyle OTP's. I'm thinking about selling my curtis24 and building up another 700c trick bike, especially as there's so much more to choose from now.

JOL's not the original thought, they're pretty basic design that are open to interpretation.

Oh dear Ed, I had a discussion with Mr John Prolly himself regarding this, don't open your mouth on this discussion without the facts to back up this statement.
JOL was THE FIRST person to bring hardwareless horizontal straps to market/testing for the purposes of bicycle foot retention, along with the Hold Fast guys.
I actually have an apologetic email from John Prolly after he said the same thing, after he accused Jol of copying Hold Fast on his website. I disputed by responding with an email full of factual evidence, times dates etc, stating why he was wrong and why I was right (I wasn't rude merely stating facts), interestingly Hold Fast straps first went into development around the same time as JOLS straps. -

Yeah my next bike is gonna have a flip flop hub so I ride it brakeless freewheel too ;)
There will be some other unique shizzle going on as well, but its not gonna even start getting built until Jan/Feb at least lol. -

By original, I was referring to the powergrip, where the evolution of the design start off.
Because this is a very basic idea, I'm not surprise that more and more company making their 'own' strap, the fact that JOL and Hold Fast developed them at the same time show that.

Once again Ed you are trying to back track after spouting a load of crap.
The only thing that Power grips and JOL straps share in common are that they are both a form of foot retention, other than that they are completely different.- JOL straps require absolutely no mounting hardware to attach to the pedal Powergrips DO.
- Powergrips are not easily adjustable once mounted to the pedal as they require you to adjust the metal hardware which is also attached to the pedal, JOL straps DON'T.
- JOL straps mount horizontally, power grips DON'T
- JOL straps offer the same amount of adjustability tension wise on the front and back sections of the pedal, just as double straps do, power grips DON'T
The lightbulb is a very basic idea, but someone still had to concieve, manufacture and test it, and it was still revolutionary at the time, just as the use of horizontal durable straps for tricks/fixed street have now become common place for tricks riders etc, people needed something better, so some clever people came up with a good idea, tested it...manufactured it... et voila.
Actually no you're right Ed, they share a lot of similarities.....jeez.

Oh and for the record, Hold Fast, and JOL, had their product on the market 4-6 weeks before any of the "pretenders" started to show up, which goes to show that no one else was innovative enough to come up with the idea at the time, they are both still the best out there IMO.

• #167
For fuck sake, it EVOLVE from the powerstrap, I didn't said they're the SAME.

Actually what you originally said was this ^
For fuck sake, it EVOLVE from the powerstrap, I didn't said they're the SAME.
Just for the record.

My English is shite, yes I do get that, I'm always fucking it up, you used to have a deaf girlfriend for fuck sake.
That is exactly what I was trying to said, once the JOL/Hold Fast design get out, it's inevitable that it going to get copied (and probably even get improved, like the Thomson seatpost) hundreds of time eventually.
Just like any other product.

Ed you said that JOL's were not the original and they were a basic design open to intepretation, correct me if i'm wrong here, but I understood your english just fine thankyou.
I was not attacking your english here, just the bullshit statement you came out with regarding JOL's straps, a similar statement that many other clueless idiots have come out with.
My past relationships have nothing to do with JOL straps, and neither does your deafness, and I think its pretty pathetic to bring either of those things into a discussion about bike parts.
Its clear here as is often the case ED, that after talking down to someone in a condescending manner as if you know everything about anything bike-related, as you usually do, and once again being shown up as talking bullshit, whilst trying to simultaneously belittle the person you are addressing
(which happens frequently), that you have now resorted to personal insults in a desperate attempt to come back at me me with any kind of response that might win you the argument here, instead of manning up and admitting you're wrong.I am now respectfully bowing out of this discussion as there is nothing else to be said.

There will be some other unique shizzle going on as well, but its not gonna even start getting built until Jan/Feb at least lol.I'll look forward to seeing your new build in the next few months. The leader trick frame is looking good for me atm, infact ideally i want an FBM sword. Getting a pair of those Dodci rims off tokyofixedgear that's my next upgrade for the cutter. Do you know if they're anygood by chance?
-
• #173
are they actually trick rims?
i had a quick look at them an they look pretty sick
are you riding a cutter then?
im holding out for a scissor in a small :) -

im holding out for a scissor in a small :)No I don't think they actually are, the description says they are an Italian company and are a new version of their road rims but are ultra strong. Tokyofixedgear tend to sell more of the trick/hipster (whatever you want to call it) side of things so hopefully they'll be ok. I don't really do any big drops, more just flatland messsing about. Anybody ride them??
Yea I ride a V3 cutter, had it for a good few moths now and it's by far the best build i've done, so much so i sold all my other bikes as they never got used! http://www.londonfgss.com/members5803-albums496-picture4622.html
it's changed a little bit since the picture was taken.
i love the seat tube curve, its like a lo pro
but, to the matter in hand
in the coming days/weeks i will be pre-ordering my charge scissor for when wiggle get them back in
what hubs/spoke/rim combo should i go for?
im looking for function over aesthetics ( even though i do like the b43s and the h plus sun) and im dont want to break the bank. gona be using this bike as my main bike for a while as well.
cheers guys
