I was wondering when someone would finally start a thread about BLB. Though can't help feeling it would be even better if it was aimed at discussing the relative merits of BLB and Shop 14.

Never been to Brick Lane Bikes but sounds shite, could just be the person on the day.
Just for the record I have always used a normal chain splitter on my 1/8th chains

ahhhh...I could, but I won't.
Fingers crossed you can all come and see me in Brixton in a few weeks and I'll be as friendly as possible.

yups i'd certainly come and see you if you can lend me a chain breaker and not be totally shite like blb! all i need is to split a 1/8 chain and get the tension right... everything is 1/8 except the chainring.

Yeah, but I would rather go into a local evans if I know they'll be nice to me.
I work at Velorution now, they are really quite nice. Come in and see me tomorrow, it's 21 (i think) gt titchfeild st.

Could we have a new section for threads about BLB, helmets and other such topics?

Just a question but I was in there today and they seem to know fuck all?
Like I said I was gonna run radial on my front and the guy was all like "No, do 3x, radial is far weaker". I said that's what I wanted anyway and he gave me a withering look. I was tempted to explain that radial is not in fact weaker than 3x per se, depends on force vectors and so on, but I could not be arsed.
**Then some clueless noob came in **asking about risers, they did not have a fucking clue? I could have told him straight off. He was like "I want risers on my bike, dunno how that works" and they were all confused and shit?
Oh and the final nail in the coffin,** I asked how much they would charge to fit and tension a chain. ** Cos I have a 1/8 chain but no tool, so I was wondering if it would be cheaper to buy a tool or just get them to do it. Guy told me "35 quid, cos that's heavier, that's track chain". WTF? I can buy the cracker from hubjub for like 15 quid?!
Is this normal from BLB? They got some nice frames but really they want to charge 35 to break a chain?! Jokes...

I've found that it depends on who you're dealing with in BLB and when. I've had days when I go in there and everyone I come into contact with is a complete boring tosser, but I've also had days where whoever I've spoken to has been really helpful.
£35 for breaking a chain? I went in there to buy a new rear cog & fit a bigger chainring, I brought my own chainring, 15mm spanner, allen keys and spare links in hope of using their chainlink tool to sort it all out myself.. "wasn't allowed" to borrow the chainlink tool but the guy I spoke to offered to do it all for me and only charged me the £16 for the cog.
Bit of a lengthy reply but thats my most recent experience in there, and it was surprisingly good!

Firstly, i found it hard to read what you've written on account of how poorly you've constructed your sentences, in the style of 'he was all like, then i was all like total noob and shit' etc...
A chain breaker costs between 5-15 pounds, buy one & stfu. i use the same one for both 1/8 & 3/32 also.

Hipster Spice Route my friend... you can charge what you like and daddy will pay.

I'm really busy next couple of days with work :( At least I laced up my new front tonight - radial even though the BLB advised against! Can I come see you next week? Monday? PM me if you get the chance...

Eh no. I think what I wrote was fairly self-explanatory, but if you find it hard to digest then that's OK. I know how much a chain breaker costs, my whole point was if it would be cheaper to buy one or have BLB do it for me.
