My friends mum keeps bees. Free honey, yum yum.
Yes its great to have REAL HONEY, and not the glucose stuff. Though some beekeepers cheat! they make this syrup with fruit peel and bees just get in the tray that got it and dont extract it from the flowers!
honey great with porridge.. taste is all in the local flowers etc.. that's what makes bee-keeping an artform, respect to those that can do it.. need to be a great gardener though or live somewhere with plenty of pollen / nectar.. i don't know why i know this but the bee industry has crashed, mass extintion mystery in the UK..
anyway beats talking about tyre treads or was it tyre threads.. yawn..
You got to live in a wide open space, more because people are a bit misinformed about bees. My mums bees got poisoned onces and the whole behive died. Also the chemicals people use to fumigate their plants.
There are breed of bees some are really mean and will sting and some other are nice and wont. So people killed them cuz they blamed my mum that their bees were dangerous. Its not a nice job to do when my stupid task was to centrifugue the honey panels and put them in big containers, i ended up all sticky hair arms clothes.

FWIW, there's an old couple who turn up to the farmers' markets in late summer to sell the production of honey from the hives in their garden in Harrow. It's some of the best honey I have ever, ever had. Urban honey FTW.
(Hugh Furry-Wibblingstall did a tasting on one of his progs of his honey vs some made by beekeeping kids in Hackney too - the Hackney honey won).

There is also a shop in Clapham that has it's own hive and sells the produce. Called "The Hive", imaginativly.
