Why does his car always sound like a bag of shitty spanners?

Does it? Sounds more like a race car to me.

I know the idea is that it sounds 'race tuned' but having watched plenty of motorsport, both on telly and live, I've never heard a car sound as fucked as his does.

Not sure what you mean by fucked but his cars don't seem to sound any more or less "bag-of-spanners-y" than any of the cars in this

I dunno, maybe it's the way he drives, seems to be on the rev limiter constantly which, in my opinion, isn't a good/nice noise.

The popping seems excessive and harsh too. I've had bikes that have popped on decel and it's fun as hell but I kinda expect his car is at least partially set up/tuned to do it on purpose rather than it being an accidental by product of an engine and exhaust that are set up/tuned purely for power.

The popping is nothing like the stuff you get from Evos competing over here. One of the I'm almost certain it's using the anti lag. Sounds like a gunshot, which can be disconcerting when you're up on Epynt
