query it on the phone. no joy.
get new readings. query it again. no joy.
try and get historical readings from landlord and lettings agent. fail.
try politely reasoning on the phone again, no joy.
they send letter stating they're going to take £1000 out of our account in three days. yikes.
write long and detailed letter requesting "fair and reasonable approach" to a bill which is clearly either wrong or not ours (the amount claimed, for a small one bed flat with gas heating and cooker, is something like three times the national average)
send it to billings department, customer services, head of customer services, copy text into online complaint form and get a mate who works for them to forward it one to someone he knows.
the very next afternoon, get a phone call from british gas ("calling on behalf of the managing director")
"spoke to edf" "problem with the meter" "recalulated your acocunt" £1000 bill becomes... *holds breath
£120 credit!

Just back from a little afternoon drinkey-poos thing at a posh rich friend's place. Got offered a little selection of wines when I arrived. I said "I'll have a semillon thanks". This, as I'm rather partial to it, and he keeps a nice cellar.
The hostess, who is hot as hell and wearing a very alluring cocktailey dressey thingy, leans towards me and says very quietly so that no one else can hear:

My wife knackered up our washing machine last week. Estimated cost of repair: £150, Estimated cost of replace: £310.

i did something similar fixing my oven door handles, saved the call out charges etc, found that there were not even any parts required and the oven door now leaks less heat as its back in place properly too.
online videos are awesome
i have also seen ones where i get to pretend to be a plumber and then service a bored housewife's...
