That is awesome.
The number of scrambles you need to solve to chance upone one like that:
Double X-Cross (He definitely saw this in inspection)
Free pair (He would have seen this too, probably)
PLL skip (Lucky as hell!)All executed at over 10 turns per second.
Well done Max!

So he was a bit fortunate with the randomised cube he was given?

The guy holding everyone back is a great addition to the vid

So he was a bit fortunate with the randomised cube he was given?
Well, yes in a way.
But to get WR solves now, you need three things:
A randomised cube that is amenable to a lucky solve.
Incredible skills of lookahead, planning and knowledge of hundreds if not thousands of turn patterns (algs).
Physical ability to execute the above at tremendous speed and accuracy.
Of these three things, the first is far and away the most minor and also one that is shared by all cubers. Do enough solves and your path will be crossed with such a scramble.

Yeah, love him. He is probably an official arbiter. Kid you not.

So it's like a Strava commuting segment KOM? Got it.
(actually, dammit, I should have quoted it in the shit gravel riders say thread)But yeah, pretty much all WRs in all sports or games are that pattern.
A tremendous amount of training and practice so that on the day that the stars align you're able to do something with your good fortune. -

And there is a Netflix documentary apparently!!

The speed cubers? Actually a really nice and heartwarming documentary if I remember correctly.

Yes, mentioned in the clip posted, I haven't seen it but will now.

Definitely worth watching.
Max Park, who got this WR, is an autistic kid who has found a positive community in speed cubing that he can thrive in. The documentary is as much about his and his family's story of being neuro atypical as it is about cubing.
7/11 would recommend.
