  • I'm at a comedy gig in Bethnal Green tonight.

I've never left my bike locked up around there and wondered if it's worth the risk. I would take the front wheel and lock it to rear wheel and stays (removing seat and post), and lock it to a railing or post with a Kryptonite Evolution S4 long D-lock.

    Is it worth the risk?

Also I was thinking why not post area's where you should be causius of locking your bike up. Say places of low, medium and high risk of theft.

    Cheers.

  • i try never to leave my bike unattended, no matter how well locked up, anywhere in the boroughs of hackney or tower hamlets.

  • London

  • ha! +1
i was gonna say the same thing.

  • Not the best idea to advertise on a public forum where you'll be leaving your bike locked and unattended tonight, eh?

  • Is it worth the risk?

yes it is always worth the risk. what's the alternative - shitty public transport.

  • if it ain't worth the risk, you need a shitter bike.

Mattttttty is right - take the location and lock details off the op

  • Yes you need a shite bike for things like this. Though insurance takes a massive worry off your mind

  • Outside the cinema on West India Quay. I had a BMX stolen from there a few years ago, and constantly see broken locks on the floor.

    Point taken.

I do think my bike safer when locked up in the west of london. More concerned about the east, north and south.

  • Do it at your peril.. I left my bike out of sight for 45mins at it was gone. Avoid the Spurstow Arms

  • What's with the foodie people posting on this thread:

  • wahey!

  • it's not a good place to lock your bike up (http://maps.met.police.uk/) according to the stat's - get insurance or pt....

i don't agree that all of london is bad for locking bikes. it's ok if you have a decent lock. some places, like bethnal green, have **lots more **kids around looking for bits to steel (seats, wheels...etc) by having bikes for every occasion.

  • According to that map, Highgate is worse than Hackney. I would say they have got wrong information there. Its really just common sence.

  • Remember it goes on reported crime....

of course highgate is worse than hackney. the map is right.

  • It is also by borough with I didnt reolise to begin with.

Shut it you. My side of Highgate is better.

  • It's my only bike so I think I'll deffer leaving it unattnded. Although I'm trying toi phone the venue to see if I can bring my bike inside and lock it.

what kentish town? crime free i hear.

  • The Milton Conservation Area N6 dont you know.

  • Buy insurance and lock it near the station. It should be fine. And if it does go, you claim on the insurance.

That's my line of thinking (and acting), at any rate. I hate hate hate changing my behaviour for fear of thieves. I refuse to let them beat me down in that way.

  • Organisers (my sister) says I can bring my bike in to the gallery, yee-haa.

  • that'll work. be sure to still lock it even tho it's inside ;)
