when shopping last week noticed some lovely ones from RL & Hugo Boss - alot of chocolate browns mixed with pinks...nice!
Skinny ties are SO 2008, jeez! You can tell you've not been in London for a while! ;)

For many years I have gone for the matching tone-on-tone shirt/tie combo, or even the Liberty's matching patterned tie/shirt combo as rocked by Michael Caine in the Italian Job or David Niven pretty much through the 1970s. If it was good enough for them...
Novelty ties are the exclusive preserve of the twat. Along with novelty socks and coloured bow-ties/cummerbunds.
Cufflinks are pretty much the only item of formal attire where a gentleman can express his personality. Otherwise you should aim to differentiate yourself by the quality and cut of your outfit.

So I'm going through a bit of a tie stage. ......... I found http://cyberoptix.com/ the ties on there are really nice. Haven't found anything similar or even coming close in London so if you know of a place or design outfit let me know!
the ties on that site look pretty much like t-shirt graphics transfered to a tie.
they look like the sort of thing you might find on carnaby street or in camden market.i agree on the skinny tie view but i would wear one if it suited the rest of my attire. i have a couple of vintage dior slim ties from the 60's or maybe earlier, simple motif that can be worn long after the skinny tie and cardigan brigade have moved on to kipper ties and tuxedo waistcoats :-)

Jon Snow, I think,is the only person who can get away with ties like that.

Matching pattern combo is excellent, but the tone-on-tone thing went the way of Chris Tarrant and assorted game-show hosts a while ago.
Skinny ties are OK, but with the right outfit or cut of suit, otherwise they look a bit try-too-hard.
Knitted ties are where it is really at.

only Vogue have declared skinny ties are the rage- not me personally..., most people I know dont follow trends and go with their own " non conformist" style

I think Hugo Boss make really nice ties, I hardly wear my ties these days
(since I only dress formally for work) but i've got a nice collection sitting at home lol. -

seems alot of men don't like wearing a tie, I think they look fabulous! ... a well groomed man sporting a dashing suit and tie....very debonair!
looks equally as nice if the tie is a little loose so its not so "tight" around the neck..

my collection of tie runs to over 200
bought loads from charity shops and a bag of crappy 60's / 70's ties from flip in liverpool

if you want a few funky ones please feel free to have a look / PM me jamesi am now under the opinion that ties are the most pointless piece of clothing ever invented

They are singularly useless aren't they? As far as I'm aware they are the only item of men's clothing that serves absolutely no practical purpose whatsoever - apart from endearing you to other tie wearers that is.
Watches are fairly superfluous these days now we all have mobiles, but they still do have a use at least. -
