  • Three AJ's is the magic number...

  • Is that a free standing basin or in a cupboard BTW?

  • It's a cupboard. Three AJs?

  • Adjustable. Spanner. B^)

  • I've just replaced the diaphragm in the fill valve of the toilet - the old one was split and it took forever to fill up - now it fills up fast but it's also making a loud hissing /filling sound every couple of minutes

    Any ideas?

    Remove snake from cistern.

  • Is it leaking and refilling?

  • ^ sorted it, the fill valve adjustment screw needed tightening up now its fine

  • Hey plumbers.
I’ve got pillar taps on a butler sink. The hot tap is squeaky when you turn it on or off (it’s not leaking or anything, just annoying). These are old taps with a washer, not a new cartridge type. Can I open it up and grease it in some way to sort it out? If so what grease?

  • Toolstation nearby?
    TS part number 34053.

Other suppliers of Plumbers Grease are available.

  • Toolstation have Original Hive internet/ connected homes thermostats for £6o at the mo.

If you can fit it yourself it's a good deal.

  • Anyone got any opinions on Hive vs. Nest? Will be for a dual zone setup, one running underfloor heating on ground floor, the other running rads on 1st and 2nd floors. Leaning towards Nest simply as I can then pair them with Nest smoke alarms.

  • Did you manage to get water in? Its a non return valve

  • Unfortunately i'm not London base, but will ask him...

  • my personal preference is Vaillant.

Hi - if I could ask a q about a Vaillant. Recently got a smart meter installed and it tells me I'm consuming an oddly large amount of gas - but basically I'm only running the boiler for a shower in the morning. Any reason it'd be drawing more during the rest of the day? It's overdue a service as well, so if you happen to know anyone east who you could recommend... thanks!

  • For Vaillant service and repair in a (East) London John at Full Flame is the man.

    http://www.full-flame.co.uk/

  • @sacredhart - thanks!
@diable - about 3-5kWh/day. Fair enough about smart meters not being very smart - it doesn't seem that much to me, but I don't know what I should expect from a new-ish boiler.

  • I'd second John at Full Flame. Turned up when he said he would and charged me what he said he would (and I had hot water again after his visit) and seemed like a nice bloke.

  • Combi. It's three years old.

  • I don't recall. 2 yrs maybe.

  • British Gas seems to think the avg consumption in my area is about 3.3kWh/d, so I think I should be considerably lower at the moment given it's mid-summer.

I'll get on to that guy the others recommended...

  • Hello Plumber/Plumbing people,
Got a leaking wall hung loo (Duravit loo and Geberit concealed cistern). Seems to only leak when water gets above a certain level i.e when someone uses it and flushes, so not constantly. No access I believe without destroying the panel it's attached to. Anyone got any advice or can recommend a plumber that knows these things please? (sorry if I am replying to something here, not sure how to post query on its own) SE London...
