  • The curve looks pretty cool, but how narrow is too narrow?

    They go down to 35cm!

I suppose too narrow is when it restricts your control.

  • I wonder how long before Guy is selling a pair on here.

  • Scatto for sprints, Sphinx for pursuits

  • Scatto for sprints, Sphinx for pursuits

I think you'll find it's aerobars for pursuits!

  • Err, you're right.

Scatto for sprints, Shpinx for other shit (but not pursuits as those are aero bars, I can categorically say this as I'm regurgitating stuff said by Rob who is right, more than me, much more than me).

  • New from Nitto OS B123 SSB in steel and alloy

Unfortunately the clamp area on these isn't wide enough for the madness that is a Pro Vibe track stem.

  • Pro Vibe =

  • Err, you're right.

Scatto for sprints, Shpinx for other shit

shit like scratch and points races. Although I wish the UCI would ban that hand position

  • Unfortunately the clamp area on these isn't wide enough for the madness that is a Pro Vibe track stem.

    what about a Pro 7s?

  • what about a Pro 7s?

yeah the normal OS stems will be fine with it; I got a carbon 7S and a Syntace for £30 total so I have plenty options.

  • What's the deal with the UCI now sanctioning all equipment so teams like GB can't develop and use their own stuff?

    Like a type of NJS

  • I know track cyclists use smaller width drop bars that roadies. I'd usually just get a drop bar to the measurement of my sholders 40cm. Should I do this at the begining?

I was looking at deda pista but they all seem to be 42cm oto

  • I've not heard of that. We always use whatever width our shoulder are. 42cm for me.

Cinelli pistas do them in 40 and 42 - http://www.shinybikes.com/bikes/cinelli-pista-handlebars

It looks like 3T have stopped making their pista's

As you say all the Deda bars I could find were 42cm. Not listed on their webshite which didn't help.

  • Have a look at some of the Chris Hoy pictures with him holding onto what looks like the smallest little chrome bars, although maybe its his rediculous tensed muscle that makes them look so small. I'm pretty sure they are not his sholder measurement. The deda pista 42 outside to outside should do me for 40 ctc so I guess I'll grab them.

  • Track cyclists that like to show off their muscle size use smaller bars to make their shoulders appear massive.

Everyone else just uses the same bars they would for the road. I've got 42 on the road, 42 on the track.

  • Speak for your self. :-) I use 42 on the road 40 on the track and might switch down to 38.

Whatever you get, you will probably end up changing after your first season. I have changed track bars about 5 times now. My favourites are Nitto B123 Cromo and Easton EC90 pro bend.

  • im on 38's, dropped from 40. Like gizmond, i really like the B123's.

  • It's not all about showing off, although for sure Sir Hoy look well buff.

I think the idea is that smaller bars mean less frontal area, means less drag.

  • I think the idea is that smaller bars mean less frontal area, means less drag.

GB squad have been using 36cm nittos as an aero experiment before making 36 carbon bars. Last I heard, it was an inconclusive/unsuccessful trail, no appreciable gains.

  • I use 40

  • 42's for track league
    40's for sprint efforts

  • 38s
    40s

    whatevers

The shoulder measurement thing is a bit balls really, it doesn't restrict breathing having narrower bars and there's no need to go above 42".

Endurance riders who look like they need to eat a decent meal tend to use similar bars that they use on the road.

  • Right, I thought there was something in it. I have an old set of cinelli 68 or 69 (stamped into the side), or something like that I got from a mate, in a 38 that I had been using for a while until I realised the total uselessness of the bars for road use, so I can use them as a backup pair. I'll have a look at the Nitto b123 as the Easton EC90 are a tad over my budget.

I do like the price of the deda but the 40+ sizing is annoying. There is always the current cinelli track bars I suppose but I'll be on the lookout for a deal on the nitto bars

  • BTW you don't need "track" drops. If you are a novice, just some ordinary road drops which you find comfortable will be best at first.

  • Yeah I tend to get a bit obsessed when I get into things and I'm like a sponge wanting more and more information. Sadly with cycling and many other things I keep expecting my online banking page to greet me with a white flag
