I had a singleator and it was fine, but then swapped for a EBB. Think it was from some Canadian company, power something. It's been excellent, looks better than a tensioner, easy to adjust and after nearly a year, reliable. Cost about £100 imported though. Only works with Hollowtech II double cranks.

http://labs.yesspro.com/products/etr-bThese BB-mounted tensioners are designed for hardtail bike frames with ISO/English (MTB) bottom brackets
Both I should imagine

I've emailed them.

As long as your drive side cup has a flange, it should work, i.e. yet another reason to give Miche BBs a wide berth.

Hey Andy,
You should use the external BB because that's what gets sandwiched onto the BB shell
Thanks

**Halo Bottom Bracket Adapter**
This is a bottom bracket adapter that fits on Standard BB frames, it allows you in install Euro bottom brackets as well as adjust to the chain stay length by simply rotating the adapter.

The Shimano Alfine CT-S500 has been discontinued.
The CT-S510 requires the axle as used with the Alfine or Nexus, which has flat sides as seen here:
http://sheldonbrown.com/images/nexchg7.gifSince I bent by S500, I'm in the market for a replacement but suffering choice paralysis.
I don't have the alfine hub in a wheel at the moment and am just running a freehub with single speed conversion kit, but it would be nice if the replacement also worked with the alfine hub should I ever get the wheel rebuilt. So, a chain tensioner which hangs off the derailleur hangar but which will work with both alfine hub gear and SS freehub. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it better to go for a one jockey wheel or two?

I ended up going for the Tensile chain tensioner
http://www.sjscycles.com/supersize/28666.jpg
which I found at SJS
It's much more adjustable than the S500 (which isn't adjustable at all) and for the 30 second test ride I just did, seems to work well.
It has a little pin which can go in one of 3 positions to determine what angle it sits on the derailleur hanger and the armature with the sprockets on it is adjustable both in terms of angle and displacement (to allow you to get the chainline right) by an allen bolt.
Everything on it feels quite loose - when you install it, it flops around on the bolt which attaches to the derailleur hanger and the sprockets flop about too, but once the chain's on it, it seems to be quite rigid. -

Oh, and after replacing chain, chainring, sprocket and tensioner I was suffering chain skip under load. Adjusting the tensioner to put some more tension into the chain and increase the chain wrap around the rear sprocket (by adjusting the aforementioned pin) sorted that out a treat.

Lfgss archives helping once again, converting my Kaff to ss as the canti brakes foul the gear cables at the headtube, and my new commute is going to be pretty flat.
Great to read that the 4 Jeri is liked, am pairing it with Gusset Double six 16 which is a nice wide footprint sprocket, no eating into freehub all being well. These were chosen in the basis of my very helpful LBS.
Nice 67 spinning tomorrow once the chain is a couple links shorter.

Just in case anyone's interested, the Tensile one I mentioned above has been working just fine. I haven't had any cause to even look at it to be honest..

Asked the same Q on the Pompino thread - but then a Kaff owner popped up!
Do you know the BB thread and width the P-X Kaffenback takes?

Result of change is a nice 16mph at 85rpm, and a lighter FBNPNA ride.
Slight chain rattle as am still using the 105 Triple to the 40 middle, so more faffage (washers maybe) needed to get it perfect.

My 4jeri has developed (or has always had) a lot of side 2 side play. I'm thinking this might be the cause of bad chain slip that's making this unrideable at the moment. Anyone else found this problem? If so how did you solve?
It's far from hard, especially with a vertical drop out, you'll be fine.
