  • Yeah! Just try it, and then find out later you actually can;t, menawhile you've pocketed the cash, cos you actually frogmarched the hoody ASBO driver to a cashpoint there and then. YEAH!

  • How about an ad with some people watching telly and being all like 'yeah whatever' about an ad they're watching telling them to be responsible, and then 3 bears burst into the room, each wearing a t-shirt with "give cyclists room when passing", "use the fucking green cross code", and "don't use a phone when driving", which then proceed to tear the uncaring telly viewers to pieces, and then have a hardcore bear fuckfest whilst rolling around in the human remains?

I would give you £1 for that.

I would donate my three ravenous, horny bears.

  • Pocket the cash? Don't you mean donate it to this tv campaign? ;)

  • about an hour ago or so i witnessed yet another driver merrily texting while in slow moving traffic. two cars behind was a police car. i cycled over to them and explained what i had seen. they thanked me and pulled up along side her. i think they stayed alongside her for about five or so seconds i guess to confirm what she was doing and then sounded their siren to get her attention and asked her to pull over........ nice. watching from a short distance at that moment i whole heartedly loved the police, the nonesense they were carrying on with at the nottinghill carnival was completely forgotten. as the policeman got out of his car he looked over to me and gave a little thumbs up. one less driver-texter, yippee.

    grass!

    just kidding. well done

  • good man

  • I tend to bang on the window/ roof of cars with drivers on phones, or if I'm a passenger in a car I point at them for as long I'm near them.

I have a green laser pointer, how much trouble would i get into if I shone it in their* eyes?
(*their being some cunt on a mobile whilst driving)

  • loads if they crashed a a result of you

  • a flat palm slapped on a window makes a lovely sound :-) the car should be stationary though as they always jump out of their skin.

  • hehe, i did that the other week, guys iphone flew out the window

  • Gerald, nicely done.

What happened at Notting Hill? (Oh actually I'll just Google that myself)

  • I got cut up by a driver on the phone in East Finchley recently. I politely asked her to put her phone down to no effect. She happened to park near where I pulled over and there happened to be a policemen walking past. I told the cop about her, she saw this and suddenly rushed over to me and apologised madly. That was a result I suppose.

But what can you do about these phoney people when there isn't an officer handy?

  • piss on them and mark them for everyone to see.

  • I do sometimes slap the sides of cars to wake them up and make them think they have hit something.

  • A month ago, someone did this while driving a convertible, knowing that my opinion count for nough amongst the like of those who value material over people, the best way I can do is sound like a police officer.

The clue is 'sound', you'll get in trouble if you impersonate a police officer, but if you talk like one, they'll think you're a police officer off duty/undercover and subsequently apologise in advance without even saying the magic word 'police'.

Work pretty well when you sound very authoritative.

  • Ed, do you have any recordings of your impersonations, I mean, sound-a-liking?

  • love to see you do that, Squabs :)

  • I do sometimes slap the sides of cars to wake them up and make them think they have hit something.

Incidentally I do something similar but I use my handlebar.

I have a super wide steel bar on my bike, I think it exceed 60cm in width, but when I saw someone with a mobile phone in front of me in traffic, I decided to do something about it.

I cycle alongside the left side of the car, position the bar's end in front of the car mirror, about half a meter away, and then I waited keeping a firm hand on the bar..

When traffic start to move, he accelerate, wack my handlebar and got shocked thinking he hit me, since he move forward and 'hit' my bike, tried to get away but nowhere to go after going 3 metres at an alarming speed (6mph) only to be halted by another car in front of him.

    • "sir if you carry on using your phone while driving, you'll risk a very large fine and possibly point on your license"*

    And off I pop.

  • I see where you're going, Ed - sounding authoratative. And it can work.

It can be a challenge in lycra...

    • "sir if you carry on using your phone while driving, you'll risk a very large fine and possibly point on your license"*

    And off I pop.

Just to clear that up... if a driver gets nicked for using a mobile phone while driving (and driving is defined as having the engine running even whilst stationary.. and using doesn't have to be talking on it....) it's 3 points non-negotiable and £60 fixed penalty, albeit it could be more if it comes to Court.

The 3 points stay 'live' on the driving record for three years, but present on the paper licence for four years... 12 'live' points in 3 years and risk of 6 month disqual.

It had been proposed under the last government that using a mobile should go up to 6 points, but I believe that's been dropped now.....

  • "crucifiction's too good for 'em"

considering the risks to others, 3 points and £60 fine is bugger all. The large number of people using mobiles while driving will only be cut down if there are much more significant penalties. IMO, 6 points is much better - and should be accompanied by a larger fine, say £500?

  • still way too many intexticated drivers for my liking

  • A bang on the window works well

Have contemplated wing mirror removal as another option, if they get arsey just say they hit you, and that the damage is a result of the crash, clearly as they were texting they were not paying attention.

Not sure how they could contradict this.

  • A bang on the window works well

I agree. You don't damage anything this way and most people get a little shock.

  • a few months ago when i had my mischevous head on i kept having this desire to carry a bidon of water around to squirt them with. i have never ever done this.

lfgss does not condone the squirting of water.......... etc, etc.
