Just bought some. Do they break easily?
~I bet you'll love them!
they are wicked, but need a certain approach.getting them set up is as critical as any cleat, especially setting them to your respective pronation angles.
once done they are heaven
Absolutely no resistance to float at all.
You'll be surprised at how much your feet naturally move around during a pedal stroke.cleats wear out quickly!
I got 9 months of moderate commuting and fitness riding plus the odd 100 mile ride and basic training. At absolute most 3000 miles before total function failure.
I'd rate this as pretty poor really.
Using time atac aliums as comparison I got nearer 6000 miles and even then it's a case of "wow i really should get new cleats as they look pretty worn" rather than feet that don't stay on pedals
atacs keep going, just with slightly less function.tips:
When clipping in make sure you insert you foot forwards into the peadal rather than pushing down and make sure you line your line your foot up with the angle you set for release.be gentle, don't force them.
This will only really make sense to frog users.I don't know if they break easily, but if you have an inclination to ride without a front brake I'm guessing you'll overly tax the retention system. they resist twisting, not up and down movements.
I'm post pub now, pm me for a slow reply albeit more detailed guide.
Night night,

Pedals - original Sun Tour Superbe track pedals.
Shoes - Puma trainers.
Retention - Power Grips. -

MKS RX-1, MKS powder coated white cages with blue single Toshi straps naturally...

I run an old set of Look cleats and Shimano R131 shoes. The R131's are pretty good (and cheap for what you're getting) but I'm still not convinced about Looks on fixed.

Gusset bmx pedals with a grind plate + some home made powergrips
-
• #33
^ that look well confi, how is the going in?
-
• #34
Not too bad, as the pedals always self-right because of the grind plate.
I may shorted/remove some of the pins at some point though as they're REALLY grippy, which can make sliding right in to the grip a little awkward. -

I really like the look of how long those cages are. I'm running shit ones that only come about halfway back on the pedal so I can't get enough leverage, even with bodged double straps. Do these work as well as double straps?

Exustar E-PT12 track pedals & christophe double cages with Odge double straps on the Tank
Velo Orange track pedals & christophe double thickness cyclocross cages with Odge double straps on the Rustbucket.
Time Atac Aliums & Northwave Lizzard shoes for the track bike.
i put the Time's on the Tank for longer distance too.
i tried powergrips and they just fucked my knees up. -

Phil you should look into some 4 gate plastic clips, thats what i'm running at the moment, 14 have got some nice long ones in for us big footed riders, and the leverage they give you with double straps is awesome, if you take a look at odyssey twisted bmx pedals (metal or plastic variants) they have the capability to take clips whilst keeping them fairly well protected (mounted on the inside of the pedal), and offer a nice big platform for your feet.

the 4 gate plastic clips are really comfortable too, end up using those instead of the MKS metal one, well mostly because the RX-1 have a single slots for the strap, hence the 4 gate plastic clips!

i got some 4 gates from 14 on saturday, and have already taken them off today becuase i didnt like them as much. while they are more comfortable, i didnt feel i had anywhere near as tight attachment to the pedal.
i think the problem, is that its the strap that actually holds my foot to the pedal, and it conforms to the shape/twist of my feet. when you have 4 gates your reducing the contact between the strap and your shoes, and doesnt allow the strap to conform to the twist of your feet during riding.
they still work fine though and are more comfortable, but i much prefer single/double gates that just have the gate in the centre, you can get much tighter pedal retention.
another thing i do, when im going for a long ride i like to wear two pairs of socks. it stops my feet going dead from cold, but also makes riding in clips/straps more comfortable and i tighten down the straps tighter than normal and still be comfortable.

i saw someone running odyssey pc pedals with some straps, anyone know what straps are usable with them, i think i've got some in the shed.

I'm rocking that set up with 4 gate clips and some Odge straps from 14, although I imagine any double straps of a decent length will do, as they are wider than normal pedals.

Nike Air, sorted!

urggh, i hate those moonboot style shoes in mad garish colours with a big logo. im 6' somthing, rail thin with size 13 feet, massive shoes just make me look ridiculous. dont see how they make the 4 gates any better.

I have that pedal on my old bike, extremely comfortable with even the shittest shoes.

They do three different widths as well, brilliant.

Bmx pedals ftw.

Fixed bike - time atac xs and sidi dominator shoes - sidas custom footbeds plus a wedge in right shoe
Road bike - look Keo sprints and DMT shoes - sidas custom footbeds plus a wedge in right shoe
I had the footbeds in the dominators, when I bought the road bike I got the road shoes, very quickly I could feel a huge difference between my shoes with the insoles and the ones with out. Footbeds make a huge difference in helping you push down with more of the foot, displacing the load.
Right leg is shorter than the left by a few mm, hence the wedges to even out the difference.

although i had to upside down the soma straps to get them to stay tight and currently using soem 4 gate clips, pretty comfy.
did try odyssey bmx pedals with powergrips but got sore knees
tried the cheapo glastic cages on the odysseys but couldnt really get my feet in
saw fred yesterday rocking odyssesys with soma cages, gonna give that a go next, got size 12 feet to accomodate and the wider platform is more comfy...
Adidas Minrett shoes
Crank Bros Candy C pedals cheap from eBay.
Dead easy to clip into, tons of float. Haven't let go unintended thus far, though I'm a non-skidding wuss so probably not the best test. The shoes look fairly civilian too, which is nice.
