it also seemed to me that it'll affect left handed people since they grab on the left side (as the person did in the video above) to use their thumb to text.
It's only a phone, just make some calls and enjoy it

Which is most likely the only way to get pleasure out of owning an android phone.
I can shove my android up my arse and it will still receive a call. seriously.

Steve Jobs has found a solution to the antenna problem; he says Dont hold it that way.
This has made me laugh so hard, I almost peed myself!!
Good thing no-one is disabled in this world, with deafness in their right ear, and thank goodness no-one has ever lost a right arm.
The solution is stunning in its simplicity. I like it. Those guys at Apple really have big brains. -
• #739
Actually, it does the same to the previous iPhone, I just have to hold it differently (clue - wrap my hand around it until I see the signal drop).
my iPhone (3G) signal start to drop when I cover it, although it took me a while until I cover the middle part with both palm of my hand.
had they have the antenna on the top instead of the bottom, it wouldn't have been a problem.

So what you're saying MrScoble, is that this problem existed in the previous model, and was not remedied at all in the new one?
Ohhhhhh. I see.

Just discovered a pretty good blog about the antenna location;
http://www.antennasys.com/antennasys-blog/2010/6/24/apple-iphone-4-antennas.html
-
• #742
No, the antenna according to the blog was at the back of the iPhone 3G, but on the new one they put it on the bottom left side.
also the antenna apparenty have to be at the bottom stated by the FCC which explain why the antenna is there in the first place.
doesn't excuse the design flaw though.

O2 shop in my local town, so I'm hoping there won't be THAT much interest (working class Northern lot, don't care much about phones)
They're already queuing outside the Regent Street store!

For all its successes and highly notable failures, the iPhone 4 has a real piece of magic up its sleeve
- the inbuilt gyroscope. This will allow games to have a precision that other phones have never had before.
I'd mentioned in The Android thread, that Google needed to focus on games, and compete not only with
the Apple iPhone, but with the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP. It seems like Apple has this market firmly in
its sights. I'm properly impressed.Here's a demo on the new iPhone 4.

Oh wow, the gyroscope look really impressive, enough to forget about the stupid unpacking intro.

iPhone fail! The signal drops if you obstruct the bottom left hand corner. This phone is not for left handed people. Facepalm.
-
• #748
Wicksie there is some facepalming about, but just in case that there aren't too many,
check back one page, to posts 423 & 446. ;) -

So after being a bit 'Hmmmm' I've finally realised that the iPhone 4 is a beautiful object. The steel band around the edge is so nice. The whole package is machined to a standard hitherto unseen in mobile phones, and indeed most electronic gadgets.
But the real WOAH moment is when you unlock it, and the super crisp screen comes to life. Incredible resolution. Freakishly smooth. Knocks the (already good) screen on the 3G into a cocked hat.
A+
An alternative take on the iPhone queue in London from a former colleague of mine;
