*really really really great app.... If you are into having mobile music it's worth reading this post.

Simplify Media 2This is an app available which allows you to browse and stream your iTunes library, so long as your computer at home is on and you have the program loaded and running.
It works exactly like this:
you push a button on your phone. It connects to your computer at home, your library shows up, and you can stream anything you want from there with the same quality as Pandora or anything like that. never skips or needs buffering time. really works perfectly. I mean that. It works perfectly. You can also invite 30 friends to stream your library with the exact same privileges as you. That means that if your friend doesn't have a continually running computer at home for music, It's still worth getting the app because he/she can just browse your library so long as you are using the software.
This really works well for me because i have a dedicated Netbook at home thats always on and running iTunes. It just sits on my stereo and rarely moves. It's only for music. Now i just leave this small program running and i have tons of music for when i'm in the car or on the bike or anything.
That would be perfect for work, if work wasn't in a total black hole as far as 3G (and other things) is concerned.

I;ve just unlocked my iPhone legally via the O2 website (took me a while to find it).
the downside is that, as far as I understand, you can't cancel your monthly subscription until the term is up which is a drag.

Not sure where you work or what "other things" means, but you can use a wireless conection as well. If you're are at a desk, you can leave your phone charging while you listen and you've got music all day. if you don't charge, heavy use (changing albums a lot) will bring the battery to the red in about 4 hours. If you don't change albums much, it is fairly gentle on battery life. After using it for several hours and making a few calls, i'm usually at 50%.

I work somewhere were there is no 3G or wireless, but is also a black hole for things like decent coffee, a nice boozer and a cafe that can put together a sandwich that doesn't bore the arse off me and raise my cholesterol through the roof.

After my self-inflicted injury I've downloaded this thingy:
http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/alcohol/Pages/Alcoholtracker.aspxIt even show you a little graph of your problem :-)
Unfortunately there's no option of adding blow or Es consumption which would make it even more interesting. -

offmaps - allows you to keep and download Open Street Map portions on your ipod/touch and view them offline. Great for touch users or iphone users wanting to save money.

does anyone have experience of internet tethering to a laptop with t-mobile? it seems while it's o.k to do it with t-mobile as my phone was purchased through them apple are having a bit of a hissy fit because the phones were sourced from t-mobile in germany.
there seem to be a few ways round it but they are very complicated and involve 3 different bits of software and going into terminal and typing bits of code. i don't want to brick my new phone.
the tech guys at t-mobile are looking into it but there is no official support and apple will not want to know. -

There might be a T-Mobile UK option there too.

that hack is for the older firmware.
i have already paid for tethering in the talkplan. apple have said that because t-mobile are not an official carrier they do not have the necessary hardware to enable tethering. this may be bullshit on apples part as they don't like the fact that t-mobile are getting phones unofficially (from my serial number mine is a year old and from saudi arabia)
i'm hoping that as more people buy the phones from t-mobile somebody will find a way round it that doesn't invalidate the warranty or brick the phone. otherwise it means waiting for the orange-t-mobile merger to go ahead (months away) and for the iphone to become official on t-mobile -

Have you tried PDAnet? Works for Android on t-mobile:

that looks interesting but i means jailbreaking the phone to install it.
i don't actually need to internet tether the laptop if i could get bluetooth to work so i can send jpegs from my laptop to phone and mail them from there when on location.
technology is great when it works but sucks when it doesn't. i have 4 bit's of equipment that each have 'issues' but that means at minimum half a day spent reinstalling/emailing/on the phone to tech support/genius bar visits to sort each one out.

if you do jailbreak
SBsettings is awesome, one swipe at top of screen can toggle wifi/3g/brightness/processes

i have just been told that you can't use bluetooth on the i-phone to send images from the laptop.
WTF? the iphone does some very neat things but this is taking the piss.
so i can't get round the tethering thing by sending a jpeg from the laptop and then mailing it from my phone.
looks like i need to rollback the firmware to 3.0 and install a config file. -

I know, you can't use bluetooth at all for anything expect those Apple product like the bluetooth earphone thingy.
really annoying sometime, might as well not have bluetooth.

iPhone = shit... Free your ass and your mind will follow...

it's way better than my old nokia and the small annoyances are all outweighed by the ease of use and the apps.
worked out i don't need to jailbreak it as i just drop the jpeg i want to mail into a folder and sync it using itunes. -

Has anyone got the Natwest app working? I can see my current account, but want to be able to see my savings account as well.
I also bank with Barclays - seems strange that they don't have an app yet.
Feel like it could be a really handy tool, being able to see all my balances in one place like that, so obviously it won't work properly...

Have a look at the reviews - developed by a third party and not very useful beyond checking your balance. You can do that on the browser, and more besides.
