  • Shout out to manything.com app for turning an iphone into CCTV and uploading to cloud. Can view it on other devices and also registers 'events'. Very customisable app.

Nice when an app is just good.

  • just got a fatal error (47) when restoring my phone, has anyone got a solution or perhaps an iPhone for sale?

  • There's not been a post on it for a while, so anyone got a recommendation for a nav app that allows GPX file uploads? Nabbed a Quad Lock and the Hammerhead app to try find some new routes.

  • over it already?

  • Scratched it already.

  • Now you can collect finger prints along with your pokemon

  • This simple gadget can turn your iPhone 6S into an iPhone 7 in an instant.

  • The iPad keyboard is a very useful thing, I recommend it.

  • So who's excited about being able to send fancy messages to your fellow iphone users?

Not your android or windows phone friends though. They aren't allowed.

Oh, on that note, Signal is a multi-platform messaging app run by nice people that won't sell all your data to advertisers. @benjam recommended it to me. So hopefully we can try and convert everyone from whatsapp to Signal.

  • Signal?

  • Whatsapp uses the Signal protocol...

  • In English for laymen?

  • Correct! but Signal (the protocol) does not guarantee anonymity, which has the potential to be exploited by commercial entities for financial gain, hence the Facebook issuing your number to advertisers issue.

OpenWhisper (the company behind Signal the app, and the protocol) on the other hand is a grant-funded not-for-profit entity that will not sell what little personal information it can, protecting your privacy. Something you might have been 'guaranteed' at some point by a commercial player.

  • to expand:

It's unfortunate that, after some failed experiments, it's not possible for Signal networks to interoperate as I would quite like to communicate with those on WA from the sanctity of Signal.

  • Aha! Thanks for explaining.

  • Who's pludged with iOS 10?

They seem to have sped-up animations which makes it feel faster. All seems to be working fine...

  • Nope, staying on 9.3.3 to maintain JB.

How big is the download for the update?

  • I don't know if I like it or not. Quite a lot of change and I'm struggling to understand stuff. Siri has had a massive upgrade and seems to be able to do stuff inside other apps rather than just open apps. I've turned off hey Siri after ordering six pizzas and bowl of fruit.

  • 1.1 gig on my 6s...

  • Ha! I haven't played around much with new Siri... Does that mean it works on spotify now? The only thing I use it for is setting timers for cooking.

  • Signal is awesome.

I basically recommend it to everyone, on all platforms.

This is what a really truly secure messaging system looks like.

  • New control centre is nice. Lift to wake is cool as well...

Also, you have to press the home button to unlock now.

  • This. I've had zero luck trying to convince anyone to use it though...

  • I do it the simple way... I just use Signal and stop using anything else.

If they aren't on Signal they still get sent an SMS, but every now and then I'll press that button that sends them a Signal link.

Once I've pulled the conversation out of WhatsApp or whatever, then people are keen to get it back into a nice fuzzy warm feeling app... and Signal is where I push them.

I'm terribly manipulative sometimes. But it's for their own good, the system is really fucking nice.

  • Of all the new updates, watchOS 3 is a revelation.
