  • does vlc not do that? or does that not exist any more?

  • VLC is glitchy and doesn't work properly. FlexPlayer all the way

  • With VLC is streams from your PC and needs wifi I thought? Flexplayer downloads the files to your device, although onbviously that means it takes up storage space. I'm no expert only just started playing around with it, seems good so far!

  • Might give it a look... cheers for the heads up.

  • Interesting. What would you have to do to find out more about the NHS discount? My missus works for them and is after an iphone :)

    http://www.nhsdiscounts.com

  • ^think Giff Gaff is a slightly better deal though - (very slightly cheaper if you compare the total cost over the 24 months of the NHS direct contract with cost of buying phone plus 24x£10/month Giff Gaff goodybag). The NHS deal has more minutes but Giff Gaff has more data, and is and far better in terms of being contract free, although you do need to front up for the phone.

  • thanks for the info!

maybe we'll just lease car, and leave phones to giffgaff.

  • proper vlc app is brilliant but no longer available, drag and drop files to your ipad then watch whenever. no streaming. was removed from app store because all app store apps are DRM (even the free ones) and DRM violates freeware rules.
its a shame as with updates in time it would have got even better (subtitle support, folders etc

  • Ok question, I've a broken Home Button on an iphone 3gs a friend just gave me, i need to Jailbreak the phone. But i can't get into DFU mode without a home button. Anyone know a solution that's not too insanely complicated for a mac/ iphone beginner. This is my first iphone.

I'm also looking around on various mac/ jailbreaking forums etc. I'm on a PC so can't use solutions that require a mac.

    Thanks.

  • Get the button fixed at an apple store before trying to jailbreak it?
Mrs Quinn got a brand new one for £56 when her 3Gs died.

  • Anyone got a link to a reliable source of free software to jailbreak an iphone 3GS on orange?

    Ta!

  • .

  • just google redsn0w

  • Poots did you not UTFS?!

    http://www.lfgss.com/thread39230.html

it says "you do not have permission to access this page" when i'm trying this link

  • I did what murtz told me and it broke my phone... :( w@nker

had to reset it to make it work properly again...

  • Yep...did use search..nowt came up though

  • Bite the bullet and pay £10 for Cydia, it's worth it.

  • My phone has crashed a few times since upgrading to iOS 5. I've gone to look at it and the screen has been blank, and doing a hard reset didn't help. Each time it had sorted itself by plugging into my MacBook. It did it today an hour after charging when I stopped to take a picture, thing is I was on my way to Liverpool Street as I'm in Norwich for a few days. I tried to reset it a few times on the train, and it flashed up a screen saying I need to plug it into iTunes - but my laptop is in London. Now I'm stuck down here without a phone, can't meet anyone I was planning to etc. Anyone know of a fix?

Sorry, going to cross-post this in the everything Apple thread as well.

  • Have a user having issues with excel on iphone 4 IOS5 - receiving "an error occurred whilst reading the document" when trying to open excel spreadsheet emailed to him (has been able to open before)

Don't think it's password protected - support forums have come up a blank - anyone seen this?

  • ^ hmmm. I have a 4 with iOS5 and have just tried sending an excel doc. It worked perfectly.

I'm guessing you've tried other documents and opening the excel on another device?

  • yeah, the spreadsheet opens elsewhere. It's a weird one, I tried saving it as a different file extension but that didn't work either.
