  • I was going to give it a go, but haven't started it yet.

  • Yes, I remember trying to read the Lord of the Rings books as a kid and it was just some people
hiking for a bit and then resting and eating.

  • I still love the book, but they can be a chore.

  • Just finished the first episode and want to take these easy. Such a great watch so far and if the reviews are anything to go by then the rest will fly by.

Jeff Goldblum as Zeus as magical.

Most of it was shot in the south of Spain. Couple of friends worked on set in Seville and Malaga.

  • That is literally how the books are however....

Very true of The Silmarillion, partly true of Lord of the Rings, really not true of The Hobbit (children are a tough audience). This TV series is based on the Silmarillion, so it's being true to the source in that respect.

  • Sweet-tooth

I'm just about to start S03, the writing can be a bit sugary, but it is easy to care for the characters so I can live with it.

  • Really enjoying Kaos.

  • I also used to work at one of those.

  • Episode two’s “Tonight Matthew, I’m going to be… Annatar” was, err, something.

For the rest of it, I’m constantly surprised at how the writers are able to make every scene as trivial as possible. It’s quite an accomplishment.

  • Stars in their eyes, won’t mean anything to youngsters but this was my favourite five minutes of television. We used to finish work in the insurance market early every Friday and head down to the Riverside Studios, happy days.

  • Very true of The Silmarillion

I did manage to read this, it wasn't flowing but I love the other ones and am glad I made it, the telly show is a breeze in comparison.

  • The TV show is a bit less like the Book of Mormon translated into Quenya and back again, and a bit more like Emmerdale.

    Still watching it. ofc.

  • I sat through the first three episodes of Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War on Netflix last night. It’s two thirds dramatisation and a third insight from scholars and historians, and very interesting and watchable it is too.

  • We watched this last weekend, really enjoy their docudramas. There's a good one on the Ottoman empire Vs Vlad the Impaler called Rise of Empires.

  • Jesus. Just watched Kendall rapping “L to the OG” in Succession.

Not sure what to do with myself.

  • Remind yourself that you listen to drill and probably know the words and that James Murdoch bankrolled Rawkus Records.

  • I know but I wouldn't rap at my dad's birthday, or whatever the event was.

Also I couldn't decide if it owned it or not? Tbh it was a brilliant bit of writing and acting to tread that line and leave the viewer uncertain.

  • Stewart Lee at his best IMO. I don't have Sky or NOW TV so I'm very happy someone ripped it

  • Thanks for that, queue 1.5 hour work break...

  • Welcome, it's some of the best Stew I've seen!

  • I just popped three doors down and told Mr Lee that you are illegally watching his 'material'. He made some insulting remarks about my footwear and said he would speak to his lawyers.

  • And just in case you might be thinking he's not that sort of man - he has two garden gates, one of which is actually a full sized door.

  • Glad that Slow Horses is finally back tomorrow - having just finished reading Spook Street I'll be interested to see much comic tone it has

  • I enjoy slow horses the show, and I really like the books.

I think they've miscast Shirley Dander in the last series, as much as I like the actress from Detectorists etc.

  • I did too, as she's nothing like she's described in the books. I am, however, warming to TV Shirley.
