new season of brassic appears to have just started, unexpected but super welcome.
what if...?, wu tang and brassic makes for some pretty solid viewing for a wednesday if you ask me

are you up to date watching it? it feels like I'm shouting into the void on this one. no one else has seen it. criminally underrated.
Can't find a good source for it. Need to torrent it I think

Middle of the road, occasionally amusing "comedy" Ghosts has been given the ol' "we're american we can copy anything better than the original" remake.
10 minutes in and it's more terrible than you expect. every single ghost is played by a young handsome actor and where the original had ghosts from british history all the way back to cavemen it has now been compressed down to the blip of time the US has existed plus a random viking.
always baffling to think these shows have gone through all the steps of a proper show and at no point did anyone think to say "this is pretty shit isn't it? maybe we should make some kind of effort"

I quite like ghosts but have been subjected to an awful lot of horrible histories. Can imagine an American version is shit, have they managed to completely gloss over how most ghosts should be native American to a point?
-
• #7106
I thought they had omitted them but there is one native american. given how shallow the characters are though I can see it being more offensive including him without facing the history than omitting him

The equivalent of 'our' stone age guy without the extra two thousand or so years of between. I suppose there's no Celts, Romans, Saxons or whatever in ours too.

In the UK version, the only one pre-1492 is the caveman anyway, right? Saw it once and noticed there were no medieval characters, just ones who'd died in the post-Tudor mansion and the caveman.

There are a load of middle-ages plague ghosts in the basement, but they only crop up now and again.
-
• #7110
I guess they're all kinda tied to the house and cavedude happened to have it built around his ghost. Same could be said of the American one I guess, probably shit for many other reasons still

Channel 4 been very shit not having captioning for over 2 weeks.
-
• #7112
I quite enjoy Ghosts, just fun to watch really as it’s too stupid to take it as a serious tv show.

Channel 4 been very shit not having captioning for over 2 weeks.
i've watched a few things on amazon prime recently and it's fucking appalling how few of their shows have subs.
-
• #7114
Amazon have always been shit with captioning despite sending their Wages Theft to just below space.
It’s worse when they do but the captioning are out of sync/incorrect.
Netflix on the other hand are almost 100% captioning

They had a fire at their broadcast HQ.
Its affecting broadcast quality and features (inc audio description and subtitles).
I don’t think that’s their fault.
-
• #7116
Yeah I notice and audio apparently fine.
-
• #7117
Well, as far as I understand, the fire has limited their ability to broadcast (bandwidth they can send out).
They have had to reduce the quality of video and audio as well as removed things broadcast alongside it (subs etc).
I understand your frustration but I think you can objectively understand their decision to continue broadcasting audio over subs whilst they fix the bandwidth.
Statement from 3 days ago:
“Even though all our channels are now broadcasting again, the problems caused by the incident means we are still experiencing issues with programmes and adverts as well as with audio and video quality. Since the incident we have also continued to have problems with our All 4 service and are not able to offer any programmes with audio description, subtitles or sign language.”
“So, we would like to apologise for any problems you might still be experiencing as you watch your favourite shows. We want to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to return to a normal service as quickly as possible.”
“Until then, bear with us if things don’t always go to plan. We are trying our best.”

You sound like you work for Channel 4!
TBH, it’s not like they can’t outsource it like the BBC do.

Late comer to Ted Lasso. Finished S1, really is excellent isn't it. Can't wait to start S2.

I don’t understand what you mean by the outsourcing….
The broadcast company that physically broadcast the data that turns into a TV picture had a fire. That fire severely reduced their ability to broadcast. That limitation means they’ve had to reduce the amount of data sent out on the airwaves, including reducing picture quality, reducing audio quality and removing some other features such as subs.
I can’t imagine how frustrating it is for you to not have subs but they’re not doing it on purpose. If anything, C4 are one of if not the leading channel when it comes to accessible programming etc.
Give them a fucking break.

Give them a fucking break.
If audio were disrupted, or not included, I don’t think anyone would think twice about giving them a break.
-
• #7122
It literally was. It was off air whilst the building was on fire.
The fact is, they have a choice to broadcast without subs or without audio or not at all.
Their choice makes sense
-
• #7123
Without audio instead of subs actually make more sense.
-
• #7124
What about blind people?
-
• #7125
Good point, which audio descriptive are necessary too.
The issues really is that it’s exactly the same thing over and over again, disabled people are always an afterthought (see gov handling of the pandemic)
Probably since the time I appeared on it as 'man on a brompton' (uncredited).
