  • It's a show about magic, wizards and secret societies of course there stupid storytelling in it. that's what's Good about it. It's daft enjoyable TV. Don't question it too much. Stick the kettle on get some crisps and forget about 2020 for 45 mins

  • It's weird because it's daft stranger things style fun stuff but also mixed with some really harsh racism, but that part is a kind of realistic historic undertone that's usually ignored in most shows.

  • Yea, but the quality of storytelling or technique is independent of the content. The OA had a bonkers story as did the Leftovers but I thought they were great and I had no problem following or believing in what was happening in their world.
Lovecraft Country just doesn't flow well. Maybe it lacks humour but then their put themselves in a corner with that racism.

  • I think there is humor in it just not belly laugh goofy humor. I understand what you mean about the story telling but willing to let it slide.

  • whatever you do, don't read any actual HP Lovecraft books. They are objectively awfully written. This show is a vast improvement on the source material.

and he was an utter cunt.

  • I think I read some short stories a long time ago they are tedious. I did enjoy the Stuart Gordon movies though.

  • Yeah it's all novelty and no substance. The generic directing is full of tedious explication which you'd expect a wacky/crazy show would be able to do without.

  • Like how they discover the house - they’re in the woods, then a tunnel then boom there’s a big house. Seems like maybe the episodes were envisaged as longer form than they’ve ended up and useful stuff has been cut.

  • exactly, I kept thinking I was dozing off for a while and missed something.

  • Hah same, I rewound and watched it again!

  • Raised by wolves rounds out the current crop of TVs with some mad dark Sci Fi.

  • Available for purchase?

  • It's out there to purchase. I did eps 1 to 3 last night good watching looks good as you'd expect from Mr Scott.

  • Cool, I'll grab the others as well then... I'm on the couch with a cold, gonna need more entertainment once I've watched yesterday's stage of le tour...

  • That's my morning routine atm. coffee and itv highlights of le tour.
the raises by wolves thing is good.
    Happy duvet day 👍get better.

  • Lovecraft Country has a number of nice subtleties mixed in with the general air of hysteria. The Sons of Adam aspect seems tedious so far. Enjoying the Jim Crow era stuff.
Currently reading the book too, which is just OK so far, though I've learnt more about the "Safe Negro Travel Green Book' than I did in watching the film Green Book.
    LC Positives:-

    Use of more modern music
    References to real people/past events
    Jurnee Smollett
    And it's recreation of this

  • I forgot that was airing now. Any good? Just got to find some time to watch it - my (normally sci-fi compatible) wife has expressed lack of interest in it and its rare we do solo TV time these days.

  • That first episode of Raised by Wolves was exceptional, loved it... Hope ol' Ridley can maintain the standard!

  • I liked the wolves, was worried it would be a bit style over substance, but not panning out that way. I'm a sucker for anything space, post apocalyptic or roboty and this is all of those plus it's got Ragnar Lothbrok from Vikings in and I've missed him so.

  • Unorthodox on Netflix is pretty incredible

Just watched this. I am normally a Vikings, Star Wars kind of fella but this was amazing. Heartwarming, insightful, just plain wonderful.

  • pretty much word for word my impression too. esp the ragnar bit.

  • Oh my dearest Ragnar.

  • In in unrelated man crush TV news I'm really enjoying Ted Lasso, starring and partly written by Brett Goldstein.

  • Raised by wolves just fucking goes for it, doesn’t it?!
