Definitely would rather someone CNC for me for the tightness of the joints!
Didn't specify type of ply. Phenolic would probably be more costly, would you only have to seal the edges of the phenolic ply?

Y'all have too much money.

Opinions on how to best protect the ply?
Epoxy sealer? I'd also like to paint it as well..

In the past I’ve used Yacht varnish to seal the cut edges. Think paint would do a similar job but I’d be worried that it would be more prone to chipping and flaking. I don’t know though.

whatever the thickness of the Holde box is, is too much. could be 25% thinner and still be strong enough for serious abuse.

If you want to paint it use 2k paint, if you use a roller a normal canister face mask is fine. Put it on thick and sand back and polish any runs. It’ll last an age.

I’d pay the £207 everyday of the week over dropping £100 on ply and then a multiple number of hours doing a cut out job that wasn’t as good; no human and jigsaw will compare to cnc

It's a wooden box, not the international space station. It is literally nothing you couldn't do with a saw and a file

Trust, it’s long cutting slots in ply 😆. And if your skills aren’t that good it’ll come out way less clean looking. Also with sheets of phenolic ply it’s quite hard not to mess up the waterproof layer when drilling / cutting

I’d say even with good skills it’s never going to look as good, and the price seems fair.
Time is money, time is time etc. Building a camper van currently, everything being done 7.30-the early morning hours … absolutely I paid the extra £20/30 to have my floor cnc cut to shape to save hours of templating and cutting

There are so many interfacing parts you'd need to have a lot of woodwork under your belt to get anywhere near CNC. If you want to sit and spend your time sawing and filing to get a product that might be as good, then crack on. But don't scoff at others willing to pay their good money to have it done well.

😂 thanks for the input. Points taken. As you all were

Laser /cnc mill out some sheet material > jigsaw any day!
But if your going to the expense, defo get some of this stuff, phenolic ply, or birch of you really want nice. £55 a sheet, it's more than enough for one cargo bike floor, front and rear panels and some sides. If your super savy with design a kid bench seat too. Similar stuff to what's used on moderate duty trailers for vehicles, anti slip/grip tape with self adhesive backing will attach to it very easily too.

So....baseboard and foldong chair for a bullit. Does anyone want to buy mine?
-
• #8445
I'm shopping for a replacement for my yuba kombi I had to sell earlier this year. Nursery run starts in January, 7 year old rides own bike but often I need to cart her stuff along, kid number two is two and I also will need to carry balance bike most trips, bike also needs to cope with off road well. Got access to a 2k ctw scheme so hoping to pay mostly with that.
Reckon its between...
A) omnium mini with a top tube seat, such as this one https://www.paradisecycles.co.uk/omnium-mini-wifi-bike.html
B) bullitt very basic spec coaster and alfine
C) a normal bike with a top tube seat and racks
D) sumfink else/none of the above
Thoughts?

Ha, just brought mine home yesterday, almost too big. Was thinking as I was fighting with it to stay on the roof of the C Max that it would be easier on a cargo bike. Still hoping for Jan arrival date. Not heard any different.

How it doubled in size between the shop and the room is beyond me!
Lesson learned though….

Yes! I swear when I was standing in the car park looking at it it was the same height as me, in the same stand we have too. Get it home and the fuckers 8ft tall!

Why is it hidden behind the skoda? Do we have to mention the vehicles we own in this thread for some extra perspective.
I own a fiesta.
You could buy the wood and a jigsaw and do it yourself for less I suspect
