Didn't realise but it looks there's a steps 5000 version called the el kombi also.

Couldn’t find any, just found a mint one in our fav colour for £3450!
Better sell some stuff; who wants a surly or a thorn tandem?!

• #6005
Can you not try to source the old GSD?
... sorry, missed the new page with same suggestion!!

Thanks for these. I'm looking at this as an option now. Electric assist cargo bikes just too pricey for me. Need to think about the load and how it will balance.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a machinist who has the space and tools to repair (cargo bike) bags in london? Normally would send them back to Bagaboo for repairs but brexit seems to have made it somewhat nightmarish and expensive to do so.

Surly/Kona/Xtracycle (or whatever the original USA branded long tail was called)/yuba (newer one, older ones are like a wet noodle) and then add a bafang mid drive kit?
Also look up Benno, e boost is probably closest to a GSD, maybe half a notch higher quality?Bosch performance cargo mid drive, can take 2 batteries if you really want, front rack is decent, rear rack is lengthy, can take 2 Thule Yupp.
Start from £4.5k (same as last years gsd pricing) but then you need to add all the racks you want, they come bare. So budget approx £5-5.5k for all the racks and mounts/seats etc. PM for details if you want, got to jump on one very quickly to stand a a chance of April delivery.

Benno is my new favourite... that’s pucker! Will have to email ISON!

wtf.. what is it that makes these things so expensive?

good points- and yeah no e-Carla for you if you already have an ebike! A regular Carla is closer to 3k, and that’s after the price has shot up a bit post brexit. Think they're v well made, and if you can make them work for you then they’re a solid choice.

Walked past balfe bikes on the cut and popped in to see if I could take the cube cargo bike out for a test ride next week. Just asked for id so I’ll take one out for a spin and see how it feels.
Can you put yourself on the cycle to work scheme if you’re a sole trader? -
• #6013
I don’t think so. I looked into it and understood being self employed didn’t allow it.
Would happily be told otherwise if so!

Probably other options if not and may actually work out better in long run.
Energy saving trust loan/grant?

No, but as a limited company you can
-
• #6016
Hmmm! I’m working through an umbrella company, wonder if I could push it through them. Will ask.

You got an account? If so jump fast, get your pre order in. Thinking of stocking a few as they will sell this year.
E cargo being expensive? See my earlier post about type approval, you can't just shove a motor on any bike and start selling it commercially, it strays into vehicle approval territory, super low volume of sales and lots of variation per model = higher than you'd expect pricing.

So you are a PAYE employee not sole trader ;)
Yeah worth asking, some umbrellas offer that. -
• #6019
With ISON yes, just have to hope they offer a trade price to a non dealer... never been an issue ordering surlys so fingers crossed!
-
• #6020
Just speak to them nice. The b2b is likely set like that so folk who aren't the arranged dealer don't take the piss, buy a bunch and sell on ebay. Benno have similar margin to tern and ua (i.e plenty enough), not like others who have similar margin to what halfords would make on a £1500 commuter despite being 4x that.
-
• #6021
Aye, got a bit of time for ISON, never had an issue in the 12 years been using them!

Does anyone have experience of renting through https://www.peddlemywheels.com/ ? I really like the idea of a cargo bike for transporting the kids but keen to try one out before committing to buying. Their prices seem good (quite a bit cheaper than https://www.londongreencycles.co.uk/ for a month rental). Cheers!

If they are positive at all, they will tell you to lease (if you can and expense it) or buy it and expense it. I asked previously as an umbrella co and got short shrift. Good luck though!

Presumably one or two people on here have a Bullitt? I have some noob questions about it that I can't get an answer about from just looking at tech specs on their own page or with dealers.
