  • I’d love that but lord imagine how hard that would be uphill, with 2 kids on board!

  • I've just done a winter with wide studded tyres. Not too bad on the flat, but uphill is even harder than usual. That thing would be a slog!

  • I tell my kids to stick their arms out and "paddle" in the front, it helps.

  • Just get a 28T chainring and a 50T cog out back.. It'll be slow, but not too hard I reckon.

  • Soon

  • I can't decide which of the two bikes I like more.
Are you going for the same colour scheme on the Omnium?
If not, I think it's worth considering!

  • Erm sick.

    More pics of both please

  • So Miami Vice

  • Trying out all the cargo bikes at Pedelc in Brooklyn.
Butchers and bikes has a rubbish turning circle but mad fun to ride and comfy for rider and kids with its floppy tilting mechanism.
Also USA allows >16mph limit. Most seem to do 20mph (class 1?) which is ample for most things. Tried a 28mph spesh hybrid , fine here but too fast for UK traffic, folk just don't expect it.
Also cycling in new York is borderline amazing, done around 120 miles of city and Riverside streets and cycle paths last few days and not had a single vehicle try to kill me. Number of family ebikes here (mostly long-tail with a Bosch in them) is very high, number of strangely short legged delivery guys riding throttle Chinese electric bikes is wild, so many, but guess better than them driving a car or motorbike.

  • B&Bs are amazing feats of engineering.
Too wide even for Danish cycle lanes imo though.

  • I used to have a Dominator but it was dominated (stolen) circa 2006 in Edinburgh.

Loving the colour scheme of yours!

  • Anyone got experience with a bob trailer ? Don’t need one really but one locally for sale which may go cheap. Might have use for it in future .

  • Do it.

    *If it’s cheap enough.

I have a ‘bob’-esque trailer (some kinda copy but not a bad quality one) that I used with the road bike and the mtb. Really like it, just only good for lighter loads. I think i did 15kg or so and it was a bit twitchy if the load was too high.

  • Toppled over on mine yesterday with about 20kg onboard and clipped in. Properly took me down with it as it went over!

  • Hi Guys, new here but I would like some advice please on building an Omnium Mini-max
    I recently bought a used large frame (2016) and a used 406 alexrim DM 24 (24 internal).
Background: I plan on using it for carying 20-40kg cargo over 45min max. I will also ride it without any load but I have a normal bike too. Quite keen on an electric motor too. I m 90kg and I like to go fast but wouldn't want a super uncomfy ride
My questions are: what setting would you advise for:
    1) front tyre: I'm thinking a bmx race tyre like tioga or maxxis dth / torck. But I m really not sure on the width. I m think 2+ but it s hard to find. Is it worth paying the premium for lighter tyres and nicer tpi on such a bike?
    2) Back wheel and tyre. I saw quite a few 27.5 with plus road tyre (like WTB horizon). Is this a good option (fast enought?). Or go 29 with 1.5inch (max allowed with fenders I think)?
Thanks a lot for any advise. It s really appreciated
    Stephen

  • Got your PM! I'm afraid I can't really help you with the BMX tyres, as I have no experience of them. I'm currently running a Continental Contact (37-406), measuring about 40mm on the BMX rim. It's not the most compliant tyre, but it's impressively tough (not far off a Marathon Plus, at a fraction of the price). I wouldn't fit something too racey, it should remain practical after all (saying that you can now buy a Schwalbe G-one). I'll probably go a little bigger size-wise for the next front tyre, but the stock mudguard is quite narrow so I'll have to look into that. For the rear I'd stick to a 700c if I were you, as there's so much choice tyre-wise. Saying so a 650b WTB Byway should fit (it does on the full fat cargo).
Unless you live somewhere very hilly I wouldn't worry about the motor. It's a very capable machine, the massive downtube also mean it's a stiff frame.

  • Just saw this one earlier today and thought it's worth a photo.
Can't recall exactly where I've seen these or at least that "PP"-logo before yet it says "Handmade in Berlin" on the rear stays.
Would not win a beauty contest I guess, but the whole thing seems quite well made / thought out.

  • Thanks a lot for your quick reply. Very helpful!
Yes fender space is a concern. If you look here: http://www.nolifelikethislife.com/byexpressen-omniumcargo/
Looks nice and quite functional but no fenders...
I wonder what is the difference between a 650b+ 2.00 wtb and a 700c marathon with max width 1.5 in terms of compromise between speed / confort / stability of load... In you experience with narrow tires such as the one you have, how do you feel the ride is? But yes 700 has much more choice. What do you have in the back and how do feel about it? Thanks again

  • Also the reason I suggest BMX racing tires is that they usually have good rolling resistance while maintaining low weight and ok casing. Omnium themselves are offering one for their bike: https://omniumcargo.dk/shop/product/arisun-xlr8-front-and-rear-tyre/
However they stop at 44 for 406 maybe it s a good compromise?

  • That’s a Pedal Power Long Harry. Same as mine except that one has the front cage.

  • A local mechanic runs a 650b horizon with a mudguard, I'll take a picture when I go the shop next.
IMHO the front end being a little harsh it's good to go for a bigger volume than the stock 28c tyre. How big is a matter of choice, 1.5'' to 1.75" gives a nice tyre profile that suits me. I have a 32c at the rear on a 29er rim and I don't feel I need anything bigger. I never had an issue with grip, I'm not slow either. Don't overthink it. I might check that Arisun tyre at the Omnium shop though.

  • Ah, cool!
    Are you happy with yours?

  • It was nearly mine but I hesitated.

  • @MisterMikkel @PhilDAS @MCamb thanks for your messages ! More pics of both soon, I did considered to mount the Omnium in the same colours as the Dom but finally it will be sober, pink and black mainly !
