  • Thing looks like you could fit it upside down in the cargo bike.

  • Thanks to the Enjoy Waltham Forest scheme I borrowed a cargo bike for a few weeks (for a refundable £100 deposit). I got a Douze with the Brose electric motor. I wasn't fussed about the motor but I'm a total convert. The bike was a bit of a beast with the heavy battery, massive Fug chain and padlock, and one child onboard, and the motor just takes the edge off and allows for some very swift progress. I'd say it was most effect at about 18kph and would stop working at 25.

Needless to say I'd love one myself, or even better the Douze G4. However, I've just priced on up on their website: 5000 euros.

Right son, back to walking to school.

  • Ha, neat.

And funny as I was just talking to a friend earlier about bikes with big rear- and little fron wheels, how they handle sort-of weird and look sort-of weird, yet we agreed we both like them.
    : ]

Lots of great details on that bike. And the blue bags and safety orange look very nice..
    Also do love the pedals!

  • That's so cool. I think once I don't need the proper cargo bike anymore because my daughter can ride to school by herself I might get one of those instead ...

  • matching 26"/20" skinwalls

    what tires?

  • Your Tradesman was actually and early inspiration for mine (which is still in progress) very nice.

  • Move to Scotland, get interest free loan over 4 years or if your a business with a van that's not euro 6 complient you can get a grant of upto 30k to move to eCargo bike instead.

In other news, eBullitt coming tomorrow! Much excite. Gonna immediately strip and repaint it (because wrong colour), and also Scotland, so it needs the most protection possible.

  • Please say you're painting it yellow! I love yellow Bullits!

  • Wanted a yellow one but for its purpose it's not gonna work

  • :'-(

  • There's a bargain Mondo on Gumtree right now if anyone's looking. Here

oof. Good luck with that! Take pictures of the cable routing for reassembly.

  • Just finished this. It’s an old Pashley butchers bike respectively updated with Sturmey 3 speed and front and back drum brakes on 26” Velo Orange rims. The rod levers have been kept and adapted and we have added rear rack mounts. It’s now off to the carpenters to be fitted with a fold out Aeropress station on the front for a local coffee roaster.

Shit hip cargo bike riders say ;-)

  • It’s for a customer, so no comment...(yes)

  • That looks really cool. Rear platform seems a bit high though...

  • thanks for the heads up (think that makes us evens right?), just went and grabbed this. How have you been getting on with yours?

He's actually got another one if anyone else is interested

  • I love mine, I've not used it as much as I'd hoped but I think that will change next year when the weather eventually warms up a bit. My daughter loves it too, and it's great that there's enough luggage capacity to easily take her scooter and even a (collapsed) buggy strapped to the back as well.

I'm pretty keen to get one of their front racks but not so keen to pay full price for it, we'll see.

  • So the free cargo bike in Ealing isn't available until March, making it a bit useless for ad hoc delivery pickups. Oh well, I tried.

  • That's a lovely project and bike, but isn't it a bit counter intuitive to add heavy innertubes as the base of the rack?

  • What alternative would you suggest? I made a deck out of tubes too and apart from durability (they perish when exposed to UV) they work pretty well. Lightweight is all relative in the context of a cargo bike, I would imagine the total weight is about 1.5kg?
