  • I don’t want to do a “ i have a heavy heart I come to sell my beloved bullet bike”, but I am going to have to sell it.

I will get through the summer holidays and round about September time my cargo bike the Bafang battery and motor, the plywood box the cover and the bike cover and a spare pair of bars, are going up for sale.

Got pretty much brand-new Schwab puncture proof tyres on it, new pads and rotors, it’s green, it’s fucking rad and I think I want 2.5, but I’m not sure I’ll get that..

Let me know if you’re interested

  • RE the early gen load 60s, besides the improvements to the bosch systems are you missing out on much RE frame upgrades? I know that the rear section is for sure different on them.

  • Anyone long term users of enviolo HD yet?

  • I have put 1000 miles on mine, been great so far!

  • Max weight of 40kg. Probably alright for a weekly shop etc but that seems really low for a cargo bike!

  • Definitely one for the cargopackers.
I'd take a carbon steerer though if they're out yet? 😁

  • Bosch dual battery - does anyone know if you can charge one battery via the other? Bosch blurb is a bit confusing to me. Can the 725 power pack be charged on the bike, and as such pass charge to an attached powertube?

During charging: The battery with the lower charge level is charged first until both batteries have the same charge level. Afterwards, both batteries are charged simultaneously and evenly.

DualBattery allows you to use a maximum of two batteries at the same time. This also includes the combination of a main battery (e.g. a PowerTube) and the PowerMore 250 Range Extender. However, please note that you must charge the PowerMore 250 separately from your eBike, as your eBike only has one charging interface and this cannot be used for more than one battery.

I'm more and more convinced that the Cube long-tail will be my next bike, and they've just released a dual battery version (725 power pack +625 powertube) which seems expensive for one more battery (+1800 RRP on cube website) and isn't actually available to buy in the UK anyway. I'm still intrigued for potential future touring-with-kid possibilities.

  • can charge one battery via the other?

As in, do you plug one in and both batteries charge? If so, yes.

  • I'm not sure you can discharge one "via" the other. So I don't think you can change one battery with the other.
Don't the Bosch batteries discharge one and then the other?

    They don't discharge simultaneously surely?

  • When DualBattery is used, the two batteries are discharged alternately and not simultaneously. The system automatically tracks the charge states and switches between the batteries when it detects a charge difference of five percent. This ensures that both of them are discharged evenly, which significantly increases their service life.

  • Ace, thanks, if so it sounds more possible. The Cube dealer I asked said they didn't think it would be possible to retrofit as the dual battery would need an extra charging port drilled in the frame, but looking at the product renders I can't see any extra ports on the 1350 model, unless they didn't bother taking new photos/renders which is quite possible. Can the Powerpack be charged on the bike, would be my next question. It's probably dead easy to remove a Powertube anyway which would make the whole thing kinda moot as they could be charged off the bike separately.

I've email Cube to see if they plan to sell a dual battery kit, as mounting the Powertube would be my only other concern.

Being 4th gen I could potentially use a range extender if none of that will work.

  • I'm not sure about retrofitting, my only experience with dual batteries is with bikes that come with it already installed.
I think we're on the same page but just to make sure:
You can charge both batteries whilst they're attached to the bike using the charging port on only one of the batteries, meaning that you don't have to use a separate charger for each battery. I don't think you can use a full battery like a power pack to charge a not full one (if you wanted to do that for some reason).

Retrofitting seems like quite a lot of work compared to just carrying a second battery and swapping over when required. Are you sure that the effort and expense in the short term will cancel out the hassle of swapping batteries on the move in the longer term?

  • Are you sure that the effort and expense in the short term will cancel out the hassle of swapping batteries on the move in the longer term?

Absolutely not sure, I'm just over-thinking out loud as to how I can be future-proofed on what will probably be my 3rd biggest purchase after house and car, actually it'll probably beat the car.

In reality the Bosch calculator says I can probably do about 50 miles with 150kg of load so for anything involving a child, the limiting factor will probably not be battery range. The extra spaces where the 2nd battery goes would probably be better used for valuables/clothes/snacks in that scenario too.

And you're right, probably just easier to get a 2nd Powerpack/range extender should the need arise.

  • future touring-with-kid possibilities.

Did that last year on my E-Cargo, IME all you need is a second battery. Switch when required.

  • You don't need an extra charging port, just a way to get a cable from the Powerpack bracket to the original battery bracket. See unnecessary yellow circle.

Bosch make a Y-cable so both batteries charge from the same charge port. So, you can either charge both batteries separately off the bike or both batteries simultaneously on the bike.

  • Exciting! Are they going on an Omnom?

  • Probably not in our lifetime tbh...

  • Cool! Are they a paperweight because they broke lol? 😂

  • Well they're not light for a start, also they won't get anywhere...

  • Any Multitinker owners on here?

  • Little project on the go..
