  • I want that! @mattyS

I'm looking at a Bullitt to take the first born to school and back (all weathers). What's your experience with that set up? And is that the standard Bullitt jump seat and cover?

  • @Lolo hey bud, how's things?

  • @Lanterne_Rouge my son is 11 months old he's been riding in it for about 3-4 months. The canopy is good I have a car seat I used to put the little guy in. I secured the base of the car seat to the base of the bike, then clip the top part of the car seat in and it's secure, however my only concern depending how little your cargo is, that when you do hit a pot hole and make them jump and sometimes cry. The canopy Keeps them warm and dry and you can open the sides up for ventilation.

  • It's for the eldest and he's three, a very tall three. So I'm thinking the Bullitt jump seat might be necessary. The second born will be appended to the back on the Hamax thing that bolts on to the seat post. I like the Bullitt as it looks a damn sight more purposeful that the usual Dutch stuff. But it is spendy, and can I justify the additional spondoolies. I do also quite like the Dolly bike and I'm going to check out a few different options this week.

  • We've got a foldable seat and canopy on our bullitt and the kids (5 & 3) can ride together, at least for now. The eldest has her helmet bumping against the canopy, so I'm not sure how much longer she can sit comfortably under the cover.

  • I have the child seat also, it works well as I had both my god kids use it. Ones is 3yrs old and the other is 6yrs and it was good, I used it in conjunction with the canopy as it acts like a roll cage. The bullitt is pricy but in my opinion it ticked all the boxes. Let me know if you want any photos of the seat/canopy? London green cycles is great for cargo bikes, especially the stuff centred around family transport etc. Saying that mine was from Sbc cycles who were great and both the lads there are bullitt owners and have family's, they gave me great advice.

  • Thanks @Paradroid. From what I've seen on the internet there is lots a jerry-rigging to make things work for bigger children. And that potential for fettling quite appeals to me.

  • @mattyS a better picture of the seat and canopy would be great to see. I'll get across to SBC and speak to those guys too.

  • @Lanterne_Rouge... We have a Douze F1. Think we've owned it for about 10 months or so?! Got it from LGC who were great and let us test ride/compare loads of different options. Needed a bike that both myself and wife (a very capable cyclist) would happily ride which is where the Douze won hands down in the handling stakes vs. the Bullitt. Thought we'd end up with a Dutch Barge (Bakfiets!) but the Douze enabled us to get a bike that rivals the Bullitt in the speed stakes, but has super neutral handling thanks to cable steering set-up that also comes in handy with tight manoeuvres and generally parking the bike up/putting away in a tight space. We got the step-through frame which helps with getting on/off/stopping too. You can get x2 different front-ends with a full canopy which works really well. Needed to proof with Nikwax UV proof to help water repellency. Have a look at some of my earlier posts... down side is that it costs more than the Bullitt and doesn't look as good, but for us it's been fantastic and distance wise I do about 12 miles a day on it during the week. If you have any questions just ask as it's a lot of £s you'll be spending... :)

  • @thebrenthamtaffy cheers man. I'm struggling to get my head around the costs of a decent cargo bike. But children are precious so a worthwhile investment. My shortlist is Douze, Bullitt and Dolly. The Dolly sits between the Douze/Bullitt and the Dutch barges in styling terms - https://www.flyingdutchman.bike/our-bikes/bakfiets/dolly-bike/ - I'm going to check them out on Friday.

  • @Lanterne_Rouge, nippers are certainly precious! The prices will vary massively, but this as always will be down to spec/components. Bakfiets should be under 2K whereas our Douze came out nearer 2.8K fully loaded as we upgraded to decent dyno hub/lights and rear rack to enable me to use my Ortlieb roller bag so I can swap between various bikes easily. We needed a fast bike to enable me to get to work in decent time after dropping the nipper off. Good luck and enjoy testing them out, don't worry about the kids if they freak-out and don't want to get in, they will do eventually... :)

  • From back when summer was still about...

  • If you were to consider going more to the Dutch barge end of things, my girls have just about outgrown our Workcycles Kr8 and I'm thinking about selling it - PM me if interested.

  • @Lanterne_Rouge, how did the test go on Friday? Interested to know your thoughts. Also HUGE error on my behalf... The Douze netted out at 3.8K NOT 2.8K! :O

  • I tried the Dolly and I was pretty impressed. I'm going to order one I think but I have to pay with a bank transfer so I'll have to wait a couple of weeks. The Douze and the Bullitt would have been my first choices but I can't justify the outlay.

  • We've just got this at work. It's a trike by a company called Iceni (who I know nothing about) with electric assist. So much better than the other trike we have! Managed to hit 30kmph on the flats and my knees don't feel like they're furious at me going uphill.

  • I see a Dolly parked up near Ealing Broadway Station most mornings on the way to work and looks like a good setup. Totally agree with the outlay of £££ for a Douze/Bullitt, hard to justify and still can't believe my wife agreed to us spending that much! Whatever you get you'll be cycling around with a BIG grin on your face, well until the kids expect you to fly up hills with them in it! :O

  • @Oliver Schick, that's my little boys music teachers bike! Absolute Bastards! She's the loveliest person and uses it to go everywhere... will be seeing her tomorrow so will catch up. Let's hope it turns up soon... I always lock ours up with a massive Solid Secure Gold motorcycle chain and U-lock through front frame & wheel as I just can't risk being without it.

  • Yes! haha it turned out pretty rad :D

  • We're thinking of buying. Did you decide to sell? Still available?

  • The MPF electric assistance was also working intermittently at best.

Since we have been started selling electric bicycles, we have a lots of entry level electric bike that work intermittently.

The one that doesn't for instance are motor like Bosch.

  • Still available; PM me for details?

  • Anyone used a Cangoo?
