  • Width, yes, but circumference no.
    26" x 1.125" will be ETRTO 559; 26 x 1 1/8" will (probably) be ETRTO 571.

  • moderators be all over some jokes in the league thread. But let 2 'polo wheel' threads coexist all up in this forum. Madness

  • Down with mods.

  • Not enough spokes. looks like 28 on the front. Have you got a disc brake too?

  • yeah, thought 36 wasn't enough. planning to go to one with new wheel set

  • Anyone any recommendations for pads or v brakes for use on a velocity rim msw of course. Switched to a 48 spoke on the front but noticed my braking power has dropped . Very hard to get the tail up at all. I'm using an avid 2.5 brake atm

  • Did you set the brakes up again for the new rim?

  • Been happy with Koolstop salmon in the wet, dual compound in in summer (all salmon feels too sticky when it's hot)

  • Did you set the brakes up again for the new rim?

I did the last wheel was slightly out of true which no doubt helped it stick but still should be able to endo with a true wheel. At the minute I barely get a rise on the back when clamping the brake lever hardish

  • If you put the pads flat against the rim rather than toeing them in you might get a sharper feeling brake, although it might be noisey, give everything a lube (well, not everything) and make sure you're old pads are clean and the rim hasn't got any oil residue or owt on from the build. While you are doing this order new pads anyway. Then trade it all in for a hydro disc.

  • Checked your cable? Could be an indication that it's starting to fray and would fail soon if you are losing braking power. Also are the arms set up properly? What lever? Got a pic of your brakes? #muchquestions

  • Made a little album let me know if it doesn't work should be public.

I'm using the right brake lever as a lefty. Just wondering why a new wheel would have less traction on the pads than an old one

  • Can't see it on my phone

  • Fixed link will ask you to dl google+ app but you can click continue to mobile site.

  • The arms seem a little wide, try putting the smaller conical washer from the pads on the inside of brake arms, you could also try fucking with the red dial on the lever, that adjusts the lever pull ratio a bit so you might be able to eek a bit more power out from there. Have you given the pads and rims a good clean yet?

  • Hmmm... Try moving the spacers for the pads, you currently have the thicker spacers on the inside, swap it around with the thinner ones.

  • I find it rather amusing that for once I agree with otters!

  • I find it rather amusing that I have copied otters!

  • Opinions on 48h hubs.

Not looking to spend a load on a hub but still want something decent, been mainly looking on ebay for what's on offer.

seen a fair few bmx hubs thou some of them can be 14mm, cannot be arsed with that. Ideally I'd like a double threaded hub (can a freewheel be mounted on the fixed sprocket threads?)

So far the best of a bad lot are random 3/8" bmx hubs and flipflop Origin8 track hub.

What else is out there? What are people running and what do they recommend?

    Cheers

As long as both the hub and the freewheel aren't made of cheese, yes.

Surly and Soma both do 48h fixed/fixed track hubs (Surly do fixed/free too I think). You might be best waiting for Fixcraft to bring out the next version of their 'Core' hub, seems like they're making some sensible improvements and not as pricey as Paul/White Industries etc.

  • Buy the BLB 48h trick (or track) hubs, cheap (£70-ish a pair, IIRC) and really strong...

  • Thought they'd stopped making/selling them but they seem to have a few of their 'Freestyle' and track hubs in 48h listed online.

  • Louis got a pair not too long ago, he knocked the price right down as well... Give it a go!

  • Careful of the spacing on the bmx hubs, they'll usually be 110mm.
