After measuring my forks again to check the clearance (45mm) I went for the Continental TourRide City Road Tyre in 42c. Continental have always been reliable for me in the past. It seems that above 45c is the point at which manufacturers start talking about 29ers or confusingly using 28 x 2.0 etc.
It was £14 delivered -

I need some spoke lengths for my new wheelset, who can help?
I'm getting some weird lengths on web-based spoke calcs... e.g. different spoke lengths on the front wheel... Dished front? Really?!? I know it's a disk hub but seems odd seeing as there's no dish on a Hope trials rear...
Hubs: Hope Pro Evo 2 trials/singlespeed rear and normal Pro Evo 2 front, 36h
Rims: Velocity 26" MTB Deep V
Anyway, thoughts? -

Does this sound right? Edd says...
Rear 267.2
Front left 266.2
Front right 267.9 -

front will need to be dished.
The rear doesn't because the drive side has the cassette which takes up the same room as the disc mount

Needs to be dished, but with a small diference like that you can use same lenght spokes (267 or 268)

Build two identical wheels so you can buy two full packs of the right lengths. Sell one or have the perfect spare wheel.

What 26" rims are folks using? Need to be compatible with rim brakes.

I've been using 36h chukkers for ages now and think they've been really good. Would use them again.
A lot of 26ers are using Salsa Gordos or Mavic ex721 (I think).I didn't like sputniks and found them to easily go out of true so am not a fan of boxy rims though Gordos look tough. (Rupert?)
Velocity's can pick up dents though.
Considering building up a new wheelset soon so am in the same boat as you.Right now I'm thinking Chukkers or perhaps some Sun Ringle MTX's with a narrow width though...

Loved chukkers for the trueness. Hated them for the dents and no eyelets, therefore losing spokes easily.
Loved my mavic 719 but had someone very big very fast hit me and detroy it. Wouldnt hesitate to buy another though. -

Based on sound advice (Rik/Boagey) I'm leaning towards the Mavic EX721. The only thing is, they look too wide to take 1.35" tyres, which is what I was hoping to run.

i run a 1.1" with no prob

nesbit: you'll be fine, i run skinny's too with no problem.
love my wheels, they're super strong, haven't lost a spoke yet or run too far out of true that a fettle can't fix. little bit too heavy for me though, considering swapping out for lighter spokes and rims ala Jono. any one want to buy my rims? 2no EX721 36h, bit scratched, stickers removed plenty of life left.
i've also got 72 used sapim strong spokes that would match well with a hope pro 2 front/rear build with these rims. any one want to cut me a deal? spokes are alright, a couple are a bit kinked though.

What are the weight weenies running then?

719 is pretty light i thought. I lost lots more on the tyres. Durano + if only you were sponsored by schwalbe...

Ex721's are bomb proof, they take tons of punishment and very rarely need attention. I switched to Mavic 717/719 to shave off a little weight. They need a true now and then but are pretty good and pretty cheap. Can feel the Weight difference over the ex721's.

The Salsa Delgado Race are 25mm
400g
Panaracer paselas are really nice looking and better grip, they do it in 37 what is really fat allready.
