I don't think I have the legs for the return leg. Not done anything more than 50miles this year and that was back in the winter. Also I have a mass piss up to go to in the afternoon and don't want to destroy myself for it.
Rather than going across London first thing I'll get on somewhere around Archway/Highgate - anyone else doing likewise? Don't worry about whether I'm there or not as you go through.
I will be joining the Peleton as they pass my road in East Finchley

are many people riding gears? will people look at me disapprovingly if i ride gears ? i'm pretty sure more maths has gone into geared bike than my fixed.

I'm up for the return leg i think 60 miles in a group on a road bike should be pretty easy really (famous last words probably) i'll review how i feel in bletchley and then make a definate decision.
so fairly confident, just working out what i want to carry with me (bag or try and make do with just saddle bag and pockets) wear (just be a roadie and ride in lycra or arse about in shorts)
what are others doing?

I will be bringing gears for this one. I am planning on riding to the stones after bletchley.

Roadbike, Lycra, Pockets = No bag. Job done. -

Me. I am going to up my gearing, ride my usual bike and wear lycra. I fucking hate lugging a bag around with me, and 60 miles aint too far really so may ditch it. Or bring a small bag.
Speaking of gearing, has anyone actually done this route before? If so, looking at teh elevation profile, it looks pretty hilly. Though Highate Hill looks to be the steepest part of the whole route. Is that right?

I will be taking a bag. Mainly for some warm clothes for when we get to the stones at 3 in the morning.
Mike, what time are you meeting the others as they come through finchly. I will meet you there.

Well, I was hoping someone could give me a ring when they get to the top of Highgate so I can hang around on the high road by the petrol station and wait

I might hang arround at the top of Highgate hill just so I can see the pain in there faces as they come up the hill.

Yep, use a gearing that you're happy climbing highgate on and you'll be fine for the whole ride. -

That guy's a dick. -

What time do you guys think you will be going through there?
-
• #298
I'm not sure, the big scary climb all the way up highgate should take us around 6 hours. You'd best leave home at around 13.45 and stay there until you see us.
Remeber, don't leave/move/sleep/bail until you've seen us.

The Alps have got nothing on Highgate.
Looking forward to this ride, Last ride on the geared bike before I have to give it back. It is probably then only a matter of time before I get one myself.

You have two weeks to get one for the DD and back!

I'm up for Bletchley (and back should be doable) if I can give my road bike a shakedown before the weekend.
